Professor Nitya Rao, a commissioner on the EAT–The Lancet Group Commission on Food Systems for Health, Equity, and Planetary Boundaries, argues that food insecurity is not just a logistical problem. It is a justice problem. Read more: http://spkl.io/60457MQGc

When AI operates at scale, accuracy alone isn't enough. What happens when AI moves from a pilot to millions of patient interactions? Dr. Sujoy Kar, CMIO & VP, Apollo Hospitals, shares why deploying clinical AI across a large hospital network requires more than building powerful models. From imaging triage and risk prediction to antibiotic stewardship and operational workflows, AI is already being integrated into clinical practice. But at scale, even a small margin of error can translate into thousands of wrong outcomes. The real challenge? Integration, monitoring and governance. • Your dog may not read your mind, but it is reading your face. 🐶 New research in Elsevier's Cell Press journal iScience used fMRI to show that dogs’ brains respond differently to human facial expressions, with happy faces activating reward-related regions. The findings suggest dogs read our emotions in more detail than a simple “positive or negative” split. Read more.👇 #Neuroscience #Dogs #Research

  • Check out the latest episode of Elsevier’s Not Alone: Leaders in conversation podcast. 🎧 In this insightful episode, host Dr. Rafael Bras sits down with Professor Andrew Hamilton — President Emeritus of New York University, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oxford, accomplished chemist, and one of the world's most experienced higher education leaders. Drawing on a remarkable career spanning leading universities in the UK and the US, Professor Hamilton reflects on what it means to lead complex institutions in times of uncertainty. From maintaining his identity as a scientist while serving as president, to navigating public trust, international collaboration, and institutional governance, he offers thoughtful perspectives on the future of higher education. Together, they explore: 🔹Why staying connected to research made him a stronger university leader 🔹How academic leadership has evolved amid growing complexity and public scrutiny 🔹The importance of defending science and rebuilding trust in higher education 🔹Why international collaboration and global student mobility remain essential to universities 🔹Leadership lessons from Oxford and NYU on balancing long-term vision with day-to-day pragmatism 🔹Institutional neutrality, academic values, and leading through unpredictable crises 🔹Why effective leaders must embrace complexity rather than simple answers 👉 Listen now for a thoughtful conversation on leadership, trust, global engagement, and why universities must continue to evolve while staying true to their core mission: http://spkl.io/60497zIxP Follow Not Alone: Leaders in conversation on your favorite podcast platform to never miss an episode: http://spkl.io/60407zIxu #HigherEducation #UniversityLeadership #AcademicLeadership

  • What does an award-winning culture actually feel like from the inside? According to some of our people, it feels like your manager giving you space to heal during a health crisis and trusting you to come back stronger. It feels like a parent of a toddler in Chennai saying: "I feel valued not just as an employee, but as a person." It feels like an 11-year Elsevier veteran in Sydney who says, with genuine conviction: "I've never been more confident about our company's future." At Elsevier, we've earned recognition across Best Company for Women, Best Place to Work for Working Daughters, Work-Life Balance, and Best Company Outlook awards, spanning teams in Tokyo, Singapore, Beijing, Mexico, NY, London, Bengaluru, and beyond. But the real story isn't the trophies on the shelf. It's the people behind them, and why they stay, grow, and keep showing up with purpose. 👉 Read their stories: http://spkl.io/60427zcjI If you're curious what it's like to build a career at a place where progress exists, explore life at Elsevier: http://spkl.io/60437zcjL #Elsevier #Culture #Inclusion #EmployeeExperience

  • Research doesn’t stop when the writing begins. By the time a manuscript reaches its final draft, new evidence may already be shaping the conversation, creating uncertainty for researchers working to strengthen their arguments. That’s why we’ve launched Writing Coach, a new drafting capability in LeapSpace™. Built for the research workflow, Writing Coach helps researchers draft, refine and strengthen their work by surfacing potentially missing evidence, unanswered questions and relevant peer-reviewed research during the drafting process. ✍️ Discover Writing Coach in LeapSpace, the research-grade AI workspace: http://spkl.io/60447KXd4
