At the recent roundtable series “Social Policy in Lebanon Between Welfare and Warfare,” organized by the Centre for Social Sciences Research & Action (CeSSRA), Rose Habchi Daher, our National Resilience Program  Manager and International Social Services (ISS) Case Workers’ Coordinator, represented himaya to share critical insights through a trauma-informed and family-centered lens. Moving beyond the idea of war as a series of isolated events, Rose highlighted how cumulative crises progressively erode caregiving capacities, attachment systems, and overall family functioning. Key pillars from Rose’s intervention included: - The Reality of Clivage Fonctionnel (Functional Splitting): How families under survival pressures manage to keep operating logistically, while internally carrying deep unresolved trauma, emotional exhaustion, and relational fragmentation. - Moving Beyond Fragmented Responses: Why traditional humanitarian and protection responses fall short when they target individuals in isolation, rather than supporting the family as an interconnected, protective system. - A Trauma-Informed National Approach: Direct advocacy for national family care strategies that strengthen caregiving capacities, support parental mental health, and seamlessly integrate mental health, legal, social, and educational interventions around the family unit. - Protecting the Frontline: Addressing the heavy psychological toll and complex challenges faced by frontline professionals working within chronic emergencies, and the necessity of sustaining coordinated, culturally grounded systems of care. Alongside other dedicated experts in the field, himaya remains committed to pushing for systemic solutions that preserve family cohesion and protect the psychological futures of children in Lebanon. In times of crisis, while the focus is often on children, parents are also navigating fear, stress, and uncertainty. Through “لحظة لإلكن” segment, we create space for parents to pause, reflect, and feel seen, without judgment. This post focuses on fear, acknowledging how it can show up for parents and reminding them that these emotions are a natural response to the pressure they are experiencing. This content was developed by himaya’s psychologists to support parents through reflection and understanding. Because supporting children starts with supporting those who care for them.

himaya’s trained volunteers support the organization’s work in collective shelters across different areas in Lebanon by organizing awareness activities and providing support to children, adolescents, and parents, while also helping identify and refer children at risk to the specialized team.
