One of the conversations I have almost every week goes something like this: "Natalie, I know I should probably do a course or learn something new, but honestly, I just don't have the time." I get it. You're trying to pay the bills, support your family, study, work, get permanent residency, and simply build a life. If you're an international student, you're juggling assignments and part-time work. If you're a parent, you're trying to do all of that whilst keeping little humans alive and remembering what's for dinner. Life happens. And then one day, perhaps 3, 5 or even 10 years later, you realise that you've been so busy surviving that you've stopped investing in yourself. That's one of the reasons I wrote my latest article: 📖 The Future Belongs to People with Skill Diversity, Not Job Titles The article explores: ✔️ Why lifelong learning is becoming essential in a rapidly changing job market ✔️ What Jobs and Skills Australia, the OECD and the World Economic Forum are saying about the future of work ✔️ Why I think migrants already have an advantage when it comes to adaptability ✔️ How to use SEEK job adverts to complete a simple skills gap analysis ✔️ Affordable learning platforms including Coursera, FutureLearn and Alison ✔️ Specific upskilling ideas for: • Accounting and Finance • Engineering • ICT • Data Analytics • Marketing, Creative Arts and Media • HR and People & Culture • Community Services • Health and Aged Care • Teaching and Education ✔️ Why certificates alone aren't enough, and what employers actually want to see ✔️ My advice for building a portfolio that demonstrates your skills, even if you're still studying or trying to break into a new industry I also share how I help clients 🎉 This is one of my big guides that you can save and read later, so save it, read it, grab your afternoon coffee. And please share it with your network so we can all upskill and have skill diversity #linkedinnewsaustralia #skilldiversity #CareerDevelopment #FutureOfWork #SkilledMigrants #ProfessionalDevelopment #MigrantCareers #workinaustralia #australianjobmarket

The latest World Economic Forum “Chief People Officers Outlook” (Sept 2025) makes one thing clear — AI development must go hand in hand with people development. Among the top opportunities for AI in the next 6–12 months, the WEF highlights career development and upskilling. Among the top risks - employees not adapting fast enough and career stagnation from over-reliance on AI. There’s no contradiction here — it’s the same message from both sides: 🔹 AI transformation succeeds only when people grow alongside it. 🔹 Learning across silos, beyond our current roles, is no longer optional. And let’s be clear — upskilling doesn’t mean handing your work to AI. It means developing the skills to use AI wisely and meaningfully: 1️⃣ Learning agility — understanding where AI fits, applying judgment, and thinking critically about its output rather than accepting it blindly. 2️⃣ Relational intelligence — connecting across teams and functions to share insights, spot patterns, and identify where AI can truly add value. 3️⃣ Strategic problem solving — growing beyond routine tasks to tackle the creative, analytical, and human challenges that AI can’t. In short: upskilling isn’t about replacing effort with AI — it’s about expanding capability through it. How are you helping your teams build these capabilities today? #AI #Upskilling #FutureOfWork #Leadership #CareerDevelopment #LearningCulture #PeopleStrategy Full WEF report here: https://lnkd.in/ejkG_Cnf

Employees don’t need replacing—they need reskilling. As generative AI reshapes industries, many leaders face a tough choice: hire new talent or upskill their current team. Here’s the reality: hiring externally is expensive, time-consuming, and risky. A bidding war for AI/ML talent doesn’t just strain budgets—it overlooks the potential within your existing workforce. Let's face it - many top companies have laid off talent in 2024, only to hire fewer, more expensive talent who are more skilled in AI. Companies like Google, Microsoft, Duolingo, and others. Why upskilling is the smarter solution: 1. Retention & Morale: ➜ Investing in employees’ growth shows you value them. ➜ This builds loyalty and boosts engagement. 2. Cost-Effective: ➜Upskilling saves on recruitment, onboarding, and acclimation costs. 3. Faster Impact: ➜ Your team already knows your culture, processes, and strategy. ➜ With new skills, they can hit the ground running. But here’s where companies go off the rails. Upskilling only works if employees see the “why.” Help them understand. AI isn’t replacing them; it’s empowering them. Freeing them from repetitive tasks to focus on creative, high-value work. Their growth = career advancement. Learning these skills isn’t just for today; it’s for their future. Set clear goals for how AI skills will immediately enhance their roles. Time training so they can apply it right away. Create hands-on opportunities to practice and innovate with new skills. Upskilling isn’t just a cost-saving measure—it’s a vote of confidence in your team. Layoffs make headlines. But investing in your people makes a lasting impact. 📌 Has your job been impacted by AI-related layoffs? >> I'm a career coach for execs in the tech industry and CRO for software consulting focused on AI. >> Schedule a time to discuss your AI transformation.
