Then comes blockchain-backed verification, locking that badge in a secure digital ledger. No more stretching the truth on resumes because anyone can see your credential is legit. Why does this matter? Because skills-based hiring is picking up steam. Companies care less about where you learned something and more about whether you can apply it. But proving skills isn’t always straightforward. That’s where AI-driven assessments and blockchain verification could change the game. Can we drive greater access to opportunity and economic success through new ways to recognise skills? We can and that is the core argument of the The RSA (The royal society for arts, manufactures and commerce) and Ufi VocTech Trust Digital Badging Commission which publishes its final report today. In the past few weeks the Government has expressed an ambition to achieve 67% of all adults progressing into HE, high level technical skills and gold standard apprenticeships. To achieve this ambition, and we should certainly give it a whole-system effort, we will need learning to remain high quality but access to become more flexible, stackable and visible. And that is where digital badges and micro-credentials come in. They can not only show your final grades but what you have learned and the skills you've demonstrated in learning, in work, and even in your wider life, for example, through volunteering. So we are calling on Government, employers and training providers of all types to increase the availability of high quality digital credentials. For Government, at national and sub-national level, this means a digital skills wallet that can link to any national ID system, verification of proven skills frameworks to base badges on, and onboarding everyone who engages with the adult skills system. We believe in ambition for the system and widespread adoption of digital badges is one of a critical component that opens up engagement for many more in skills participation and progress.
