The biggest lie in sales is that every proposal needs to be completely custom Sales leaders are burning out their teams with this myth. I've analyzed hundreds of losing proposals, and sellers who try to customize everything end up customizing nothing well. Here's what actually works ⬇️ The best proposals aren't built from scratch, they're assembled from proven components. Think about it like LEGO blocks. You have a finite set of pieces (your solution capabilities), but you can build infinite combinations based on what the customer actually needs. Most sellers think customization means writing new content for every deal. Wrong. Real customization means strategic omission. When you focus only on the 2-3 challenges your prospect actually cares about, you create laser-focused proposals that feel tailor-made. Meanwhile, your competitors are drowning prospects in 47-slide decks covering every possible use case. The psychology is SO simple … when everything seems important, nothing feels important. Smart sellers build modular proposal systems: 👉 Component A: How we solve workflow automation 👉 Component B: How we solve data accuracy 👉 Component C: How we solve reporting delays For each deal, they select only the relevant components. That way proposals feel completely custom while taking 70% less time to create. Your buyers don't want to see everything you can do. They want to see exactly how you solve their specific priorities. I dive deeper into this modular approach and share my complete 5-step proposal framework in the latest Innovative Seller episode. Tune in to learn how to scale proposal creation without sacrificing impact.

Ever wondered how to significantly boost e-commerce success after multiple platform failures? Here's a case study from our recent project with an international client who had already tried three different platforms before finding their solution with us. The Problem We were approached by a foreign client who was frustrated after implementing three different e-commerce platforms, none of which solved their core issues. Their conversion rate was suffering because of inconsistent product management, poor localization, and technical limitations that prevented proper categorization and featuring of their premium products. The Approach We decided to tackle the problem by first understanding the unique challenges of cross-border e-commerce and the specific pain points from their previous platform experiences. This involved a deep analysis of what went wrong with their previous solutions and designing a custom approach that addressed their specific market needs. The Solution The solution we implemented was a tailored product management system built from the ground up to handle their unique requirements. This included: 1. Multi-currency and multi-language support that previous platforms couldn't properly handle. 2. Custom product organization with visual indicators for new, used, featured, and popular items. 3. Flexible category management that accommodated their unique product ecosystem. 4. Cloud-based inventory synchronization across multiple international warehouses. The Results As a result of our efforts, we saw a 42% improvement in conversion rates over 3 months. This led to the client finally achieving stability after years of platform-hopping, along with a 35% reduction in product management time and a significant boost in international sales. This case study demonstrates the power of personalized e-commerce solutions over one-size-fits-all platforms. By addressing the specific challenges that three previous platforms couldn't solve, we were able to deliver a solution that truly fit their international business model. Have you faced similar challenges with off-the-shelf e-commerce platforms? Let's connect and discuss how a custom approach might be the solution you've been searching for! #GlobalEcommerce #PlatformMigration #DigitalTransformation #ProductManagement #CustomDevelopment

This cold email offer got 8 positive replies from 2,400 emails: (Without changing a single aspect of our service delivery) One of our clients, Brendan, sells email marketing services to ecommerce brands. Instead of pitching standard "email marketing services," we created a proprietary offer: "We'll write your emails from an AI Avatar named Charlie who acts as a friend to your customers." Same service but with a completely different positioning. 8 positive replies from 2,400 emails, which is considered solid for email marketing outreach. Here are 4 more examples of how we transformed standard services into proprietary offers: 1) SEO Sprint Package Instead of "monthly SEO services," we positioned it as a 4-week intensive sprint with specific deliverables. Same SEO work, just packaged differently. 2) Cold Email System Build Rather than "done-for-you cold email," we sell a one-time system build that clients own forever. We're setting up the exact same system, but the ownership angle creates a unique value proposition. 3) Financial Statement Creation Instead of "bookkeeping services," we offer a standardized monthly financial statement package with industry benchmarks. Same financial work, just positioned as a specific deliverable. 4) Klaviyo Tech Placement Rather than "email marketing management," we place a dedicated Klaviyo specialist into their business. Same email expertise, positioned as talent acquisition. The market is saturated with generic service offerings. When prospects compare you to 5 other agencies offering the same thing, you're forced to compete on price or guarantees. With proprietary positioning, prospects have no one to compare you to. They're buying YOUR unique solution, not a commodity service. And you don't even have to change your fulfillment process at all since you're delivering the same service, just packaging it in a way that stands out.

Most sales decks die in the personalization gap. You finish a discovery call. You know exactly what the prospect needs to hear. You have the insight. You just need to turn it into slides. Three hours later, you're still in Figma moving text boxes. Here's the workflow that closes that gap: 1/ Capture the insight: Granola auto-transcribes every discovery call. Extracts decisions, action items, pain points. You walk out of the meeting with structured notes, not scattered memory. 2/ Start from brand: Chronicle templates keep every deck on-brand from slide one. No blank-canvas paralysis. No brand guidelines hunt. Your deck already looks right. 3/ Personalize automatically: Drop your meeting notes into Chronicle. Auto customize names, logos, and value props. 4/ Ship it: From meeting end to deck ready: 10 minutes. Not four hours. FLORA's sales team runs this workflow now. Carson Lee joined as Head of Sales a month ago, came from Google Slides and Canva. First week, he spent four hours per deck doing full customizations. Then he looked at his pipeline - 17 qualified prospects, one week to the next batch of calls. He rebuilt the workflow around these two tools. Now their entire pitch process runs in Chronicle. Standardized templates. Targeted customizations. Every deck feels bespoke, looks on-brand, ships fast. The math for most teams is brutal. Four hours per deck means 60-80 hours just building presentations for 15-20 discovery calls per week. That's two full work weeks doing design work instead of selling. This workflow collapses that. Granola captures what your prospect said. Chronicle turns it into slides that speak to exactly what they need. No designer bottleneck. No hours lost to layout tweaks. No trade-off between speed and personalization. The modern sales stack isn't about CRM and email anymore. It's about closing the loop from conversation to proposal in minutes, not days. Granola captures the insight. Chronicle turns it into action.

Life science buyers are coming to the table more informed than ever. By the time you connect, they have already done their homework and may be close to making a decision. That changes our role. We are no longer just sales. We are consultants. We are advisors. Partners. Guides. How can we achieve this? Start with personalization. Blanket pitches do not work. Dig into the data and really understand the person you are talking to. What challenges are they facing? What pressure is their organization under? Shape your outreach around that. Lead with value. Features are nice, but they are not what closes the deal. Buyers want to know exactly what your solution will do for them. Will it help them get to market faster? Reduce costs? Expand patient access? Connect the dots. Be the trusted guide. Bring insights that go beyond your product. Help them see the bigger picture, navigate the tough decisions, and find solutions that make an impact. In our the life sciences, the real wins come when the client sees you as a partner they cannot imagine working without. That is when the conversation shifts from selling to solving.

    GTM Data Systems, shipped

When organizations have thousands of accounts in their CRM, determining which ones the sales team should prioritize becomes critical. "Starting with the letter A" isn't a strategy. Manual account research and scoring isn't feasible either - a few minutes per account, it would require quarters of dedicated work. More importantly, this kind of repetitive research just binds time that the sales team can spend on higher-impact activities like being creative to get into accounts, at times completely even without automation or spray and pray. This is where 2025-level account scoring becomes a valuable tool. Not the basic "employee size + industry + funding" scoring that's commonly available. Clay enables building completely custom data sets that align with an organization's unique account evaluation criteria. The system (I build on top of Clay) can incorporate any signal that helps identify high-value prospects - even when that data isn't available in standard databases. Here's a real example: For one client, identifying whether companies primarily served residential or commercial customers, along with their specific service offerings, was crucial. This data doesn't exist in any database - it requires actually understanding how each company describes their business. The solution was custom AI agents that: → Read through company websites → Interpret varied descriptions of services → Map unstructured language to standardized categories → Feed clean, structured data back to the CRM and scoring Now the sales team can instantly see account priorities and relevant details, focusing their time on meaningful conversations rather than repetitive research. There's a bunch of data transformation and custom API calls built in to send the data from web research into the CRM as individual data that can be searched for and changed with just a click. No black-box scoring. For the Clay builders interested in implementation details, I've included a technical walkthrough below showing how to handle mapping unstructured company descriptions to standardized verticals and market focus. #GTMEngineering #RevOps

Customizing an upsell is all about understanding the why behind the client’s business. From my perspective, effective upselling starts with listening. Every client has a unique set of challenges, goals, and internal politics. So before offering anything more, I ask: What keeps this client up at night? Then I align our recommendations with solving that specific problem. After all, customization is about connecting the dots between their current goals and the additional value we can bring. That could mean showing how a new service accelerates a strategic initiative, or how a tech upgrade saves them time where their team is stretched thin. When upselling is rooted in insight and empathy, it doesn’t feel like selling, it feels like partnership. And that’s when you move from vendor to trusted advisor.

How I use these three AI tools to get a 47% conversion rate. Most sales decks fail for one reason: they talk about you, not your prospect. Hyper-personalisation fixes that. When your prospect feels “this was made for me”, resistance drops, trust goes up, and conversions follow. Here’s the exact workflow I use to turn a normal sales call into a custom pitch deck in under an hour. 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝟭: 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗼 - Fathom.ai ↳ Record your sales call ↳ Get an instant transcript + key moments without manual note-taking 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝟮: 𝗧𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗽𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗳 (𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗟𝗠) ↳ Paste the transcript into NotebookLM ↳ Ask it to pull out: pains, goals, objections, decision criteria, and exact phrases they used 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝟯: 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮 𝗵𝘆𝗽𝗲𝗿-𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗸 (𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗟𝗠 + 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘁𝘀) ↳ Upload your pitch deck + offer doc + target market notes ↳ Prompt NotebookLM: “Create a slide deck tailored to this prospect, using their language, priorities, and objections. Include a clear plan and next steps.” What you get: • A deck that mirrors their world • A narrative that feels specific, not generic • Slides that answer objections before they voice them That’s the real leverage: you’re not “pitching”. You’re reflecting. If you want my exact prompts + the slide structure I use, comment “PDF” and I’ll send it over.
