What’s my WHY? I saw a former shipmate at a homeless outreach—not volunteering, but in need. That moment drives me daily to share vital transition resources and veteran benefits that change lives.

As a leader in the Navy…these are 5️⃣ things I would’ve done differently (BETTER) to support Sailors transitioning out. 1️⃣ Normalized AND Encouraged Transition Planning by: ~ Promoting EARLY and FREQUENT use of TAP + ADDITIONAL programs. ~Talking about career goals, benefits, and life AFTER the Navy. ~ Connecting the fact that planning for transition is PART OF professional development. 2️⃣ Provided Information & Resources ~ Making sure they knew about (and UNDERSTOOD) VA benefits, GI Bill, VA healthcare enrollment, VRE, Home Loan, etc. ~ Connecting them to on-base transition counselors (FFSC), career fairs, & mentorship opportunities. ~ Sharing info about veteran networks, #dodskillbridge, apprenticeships, and employer partnerships. 3️⃣ Promoted Skill Translation ~ Helping them understand how their military (hard and soft) skills convert to civilian roles. ~ Providing information & resources for career planning, resume workshops, mock interviews, interview prep, and LinkedIn profile building. (All at FFSC & USO). ~ Encouraging education, certifications, licenses (credentials) that carry civilian value. 4️⃣ Mentorship ~ Checking in regularly and listened to their concerns. ~ Connecting them with mentors who’ve successfully transitioned. ~ Encouraging them to pop find mentors (or have conversations) with people in the industries they’re interested in pursuing. 5️⃣ Support “All Around” Readiness ~ Advising them to address medical and dental concerns (documentation) BEFORE separation. ~ Encouraging mental health support if needed. ~ Helping them use financial readiness programs and spouse employment help. All of these go beyond the “✅ in the box”. Long before I started my own transition process I thought transition was one dimensional….but now I know better. You better call Tyrone

From "I Can Do Anything" to "I Know What I Want to Do" At Veterans Bridge Home (VBH), we work with thousands of transitioning service members each year. One of the most common responses we hear when asking, "What do you want to do next?" is: "I don’t know, but I can do anything." This mindset reflects the incredible adaptability of veterans, but it also highlights a challenge: translating military experience into a fulfilling civilian career. The reality is, the job market doesn’t operate like the military. Employers seek specialists, not generalists, and veterans must articulate their skills in a way that resonates with hiring managers. So, how do we bridge this gap and help veterans move from uncertainty to clarity? 1. Career Reflection – Veterans must identify what they enjoyed most in the military and where they thrived. 2. Translating Skills – Using tools like O*Net, Oplign, and industry mentors to connect military experience to civilian careers. 3. Testing and Targeting – Fellowships, internships, networking, and job shadowing can refine a veteran’s direction before they commit to a new career. Organizations Helping Veterans Find Their Career Path The good news? You don’t have to do this alone. There are incredible organizations dedicated to career transition support for service members, veterans, and military spouses. Here are some that we at Veterans Bridge Home regularly partner with: Hiring Our Heroes (HOH) – Corporate fellowships, hiring expos, and direct employer connections. Hire Heroes USA – Free career coaching, resume writing, and job placement support. NextOp Veterans – Specialized placement in skilled trades, energy, and construction careers. 50strong – Virtual networking events connecting veterans with hiring managers. Oplign, LLC – AI-powered career matching platform for veterans. RecruitMilitary – Career fairs and veteran-focused job boards. LinkedIn Military & Veterans Program – Free LinkedIn Premium and job networking tools. Veteran Jobs Mission – A coalition of 300+ companies dedicated to hiring and retaining veteran talent. The Got Your 6 Network – Aligns career readiness resources with veterans’ transition needs. VOWS Veterans on Wall Street – Career pathways for veterans in the finance industry. U.S. Department of Labor (ENPP) – Government-sponsored career coaching and employment services. Military Spouse Employment Partnership--MSEP – Connecting military spouses to vetted employers. American Corporate Partners (ACP) – One-on-one corporate mentorship for veterans. FourBlock – Nationwide career readiness program with coaching and networking opportunities. At VBH, we are committed to guiding veterans from "I can do anything" to "I know exactly what I want to do." Just ask: https://lnkd.in/ecN3cdpU #bethebridge #strongertogether

Navigating Career Transitions in Tech" How to Pivot in Tech Without Starting Over Thinking about switching paths in tech? Maybe you're a project manager eyeing product roles. Or a teacher dreaming of cybersecurity. Here’s the truth: 💡 You don’t need to start from scratch to change careers—you need to leverage what you already know. Most career changers believe they need a new degree, a new title, or a long detour. But the smartest tech professionals build sideways. Here’s how to navigate your transition like a strategist: 1. Assess Your Transferable Skills ↳ Map your current strengths to your future role: communication, systems thinking, analytical problem-solving—these are gold. ↳ Translate your value: a teacher’s lesson plans = curriculum design. A nurse’s crisis management = stakeholder prioritization. ↳ Highlight these in your resume, interviews, and elevator pitch. Why it works: Tech loves people who can connect the dots across disciplines. 2. Build a Targeted Network ↳ Don’t just “network”—build relationship capital in your next space. ↳ Follow 5-10 leaders in your desired field. Engage, repost, comment. ↳ Request 15-minute informational interviews: “What would you do differently if you were pivoting today?” Why it works: People hire those they know, trust, and see making an effort. 3. Gain Relevant Experience ↳ Start before you’re ready. Build a simple project, volunteer, shadow someone, or freelance. ↳ Try a 30-day challenge: one case study, one article, one build. ↳ Share your journey—learning in public accelerates credibility. Why it works: You don’t need the job to prove you can do the job. You need evidence. The best part? Every career detour brings unique value. Your background is your brand. Your pivot is your power. 📅 Planning a career shift? Let’s make it intentional and strategic. Book a session with me—we’ll map out your next move step-by-step. 🔔 Follow for guidance on evolving your tech career! ♻️ Repost to support those considering a change!

Five years ago, I hit “post” on LinkedIn... and didn’t know it would change everything. No agenda. No launch strategy. Just a simple invitation for professionals in career transition to come together, talk about what they were working on, and support each other. That single post became Career Club - a weekly coaching + community experience that has now supported thousands of professionals through job loss, pivots, leadership growth, and personal reinvention. I’ve coached people into new roles, new industries, and new ways of thinking about what’s possible. But what I’ve learned goes deeper than that: 🔹 People think they’re showing up for strategy… but they stay for the connection. 🔹 Support + structure = momentum. Every win compounds. 🔹 Most people wait too long to get help - and it costs them emotionally, professionally, and financially. Career Club grew not because of polished marketing, but because people were craving meaningful support. The kind you can’t Google. ✨ Community that gets your journey. ✨ Conversations that unlock clarity. ✨ Coaching that builds confidence - and momentum. If you’re in a season of change - or know someone who is - this story is for you. 👀 I recently wrote about what I’ve learned in 5 years of building Career Club - including what most people really need in transition, and what often holds them back. Read the full article - link is in the comments. And if you're curious about Career Club, the first session is on me. Explore more here: https://lnkd.in/gNwB8xs2 You don’t have to do this alone. And sometimes, the biggest change starts with one small post. #CareerTransition #CareerClub #JobSearchStrategy #LeadershipGrowth #ProfessionalDevelopment #Laidoff #networking
