At Rackspace, we reduced IT ticket volume by 70% without adding headcount. By integrating an AI coworker directly into Microsoft Teams, it now automates 500+ tickets end-to-end each month. AI works best when employees don’t have to change how they work. So our team built an AI coworker for IT (RITA) that doesn’t need a new portal or separate interface. By running inside Microsoft Teams, an app Rackers use every day, RITA fits naturally into existing workflows. Employees don’t need to switch tools or change how they work, which drives widespread adoption. Beyond answering questions, RITA executes workflows in real time and handles device provisioning, account lockouts, and everyday software issues. It completes the work, not just the request, which lets IT teams spend less time on triage and more time on higher-value work. As a result, we see a widening gap in the market. Teams that treat AI as a tool stay stuck in pilots, while teams that design AI as a participant in operations scale faster. After running RITA inside Rackspace and refining it in production, we deploy it for other IT teams that want to scale without adding headcount. Ever feel like your team is drowning in tickets, with response times so slow you start to dread opening your inbox? That was us. Our old IT Service Management tool just wasn't cutting it. It was a black box, really. No real insight into what was actually *happening* business-wise, or how incidents were connected. So, lots of manual digging, endless escalations, and honestly, a lot of frustrated users. We knew something had to change. 💡Mastering Advanced Reporting in TestNG — Extent Reports + Listeners + Retry Analyzer When working on automation frameworks, reporting and stability are as important as writing tests themselves. Recently, I implemented an integrated setup combining Extent Reports, TestNG Listeners, and a Retry Analyzer to enhance my Selenium Test Framework. 🔍 What It Is • Extent Reports: A rich reporting library for TestNG that gives visually appealing HTML reports. • Listener: A TestNG interface that listens to the test execution lifecycle (start, success, failure, skip, etc.) and performs actions automatically based on the event. • Retry Analyzer: A utility that re-runs failed test cases automatically, helping to handle flaky tests. 🧠 What I Implemented • Added Extent Reports for real-time logging and beautiful HTML output. • Configured a TestNG Listener to: • Log each test start, pass, and failure. • Capture screenshots automatically when a test fails. • Attach those screenshots to the Extent Report dynamically. • Integrated a Retry Analyzer to retry failed tests once (helpful when network or UI lag causes temporary issues). 💡 Why This Matters • In automation testing, it’s not just about running tests — it’s about knowing what happened, when, and why. • A listener makes the framework event-driven and less manual. • Extent Reports turn raw logs into clear, shareable insights for teams and management. • Retry Analyzer ensures test reliability by handling intermittent failures automatically. ⚙️ Use Case I implemented this setup in my Selenium WebDriver + TestNG framework. 🚫🎟 The Hardest Problem in Ticket Booking Systems: “How do you STOP two people from booking the SAME seat?” Every engineer thinks scaling is the hard part. But THIS is the real nightmare in ticketing systems: 👤 User A clicks Seat A12 👤 User B clicks Seat A12 ⏱ Both click within the same millisecond 💳 Both proceed to payment 🔥 Who wins? 😱 And how do you guarantee the other user doesn’t get charged for a seat that’s already gone? This is where system design meets real-world chaos. Here’s the deep dive most interviews never explain 👇 🔥 1. The Root Problem: Concurrent Writes on a Single Hot Object When millions of users hit the same concert/movie/flight seat: • Caches won’t save you • Sharding won’t save you • Load balancers won’t save you Because they all distribute traffic horizontally… …but the seat is a single vertical bottleneck. Your entire system must guarantee: “Only ONE successful write for this seat — EVER.” This is where advanced concurrency strategies come in. 🧵 2. Pessimistic Locking — Safe but Slow Use only for small capacity events. When User A selects a seat: 🔒 Lock seat row → Nobody can touch it until User A finishes. ✔️ Double-booking impossible ❌ But performance collapses at high scale ❌ Locks can pile up → cascading latency spikes This is why airlines and ticket giants avoid this for massive events. ⚡ 3. Optimistic Concurrency Control — The High-Scale Weapon Here’s the trick: We let everyone try booking the same seat, but only one update succeeds. Every seat has a version number: UPDATE seats SET status="BOOKED", version=8 WHERE seat_id=123 AND version=7 If version changed → Someone beat you. This gives: ✔️ Zero collisions ✔️ Near-infinite scale ✔️ No distributed locks needed This method alone powers many global e-commerce systems. ⏳ 4. Temporary Seat Holds: The Real Industry Standard Ticketmaster, BookMyShow, airlines — they all use THIS: When user selects a seat: 1️⃣ Create a temporary hold in DB/Redis 2️⃣ Hold expires in 2–5 minutes 3️⃣ Only after successful payment → convert to booking 4️⃣ If payment fails or user disappears → release hold Advantages: ✔️ Best UX ✔️ Avoids over-selling ✔️ Reduces concurrency at final booking stage ✔️ Supports countdown timers → users feel urgency This is the most production-ready strategy. 🟥 5. Distributed Locking (Redis Redlock) Used when traffic is extremely bursty. User A selects seat → System creates a lock in Redis User B tries same seat → Lock denies it If lock holder dies → Automatic expiry saves you ✔️ Prevents race conditions ✔️ Works great in autoscaling environments ❌ Needs careful tuning to avoid deadlocks & false positives 📦 6. Queueing the Final Booking Operation This is the bulletproof architecture. Even if 50 users select the same seat at the same time: 👉 All final booking requests enter a FIFO queue 👉 Queue processes one at a time 👉 Only first write is accepted 👉 Others get “Seat Unavailable” response

Busywork in engineering is dying. Control isn’t. A few months ago, structuring requirements meant days of manual effort. Thousands of lines. Endless clustering. Clicking through tools just to keep traceability intact. Everyone accepted it as “part of the job” Until now. In a recent experiment, unstructured requirements for a simple system - a windshield wiper - were turned into a fully structured requirement and ticket structure within minutes. No manual modeling. No clicking through tools. No chasing traceability. Here’s what happened behind the scenes: 1. Raw requirements were written in Cursor IDE 2. Passed to Claude Opus 4.6 for structuring 3. Converted into a ReqIF-based hierarchical model 4. Imported into Codebeamer, a PTC Technology 5. Call of Atlassian MCP server to trigger ticket creation 6. Automatically transformed into 140 structured tickets in Jira (initiatives, epics, user stories) including test cases, relationships and full traceability What used to take days now happens in minutes. No-touch engineering is no longer a concept. It’s working. Here’s the core shift: AI is not replacing engineering. It’s replacing everything around engineering. The real value was never in formatting requirements or creating tickets. It was always in thinking, deciding and designing. The takeaway: - Stop optimizing manual workflows - Start automating the operational layer completely - Focus engineering time on decisions, not documentation - Treat structure as something AI generates, not engineers maintain The engineers who win won’t be the fastest clickers. They’ll be the ones who design systems where clicking is obsolete. Advanced, Matrix, Composite...3 report types that quietly separate ₹10L consultants from ₹40L consultants. Most Workday folks know how to build a report. Very few know which report type to pick for a business use case. That’s where the gap (and the money) is. 1️⃣ Advanced Reports...your 90% workhorse ->Advanced = “Give me a clean, filtered list from one world of data.” Think: -All workers with hire date, tenure, last job change -Current headcount by Supervisory Org -Employees on leave with leave type + manager Patterns you see senior consultants use: -One primary business object (Workers, Positions, Events) -Smart prompts and filters (as of dates, supervisory orgs, locations) -Grouping + subtotals instead of dumping to Excel -Reusing the same Advanced report for: audits, integrations, EIBs, dashboards If the question can be answered from one table and some filters, a workday professional should always ask: “Why am I not using an Advanced report for this?” 2️⃣ Matrix Reports...real-time pivot tables for HR ->Matrix = “I want a pivot table inside Workday, not in Excel.” Perfect for headcount & turnover style questions like: -Headcount by Department (rows) x Quarter (columns) -Terminations by Reason x Supervisory Org -DEI mix by Gender x Job Level This is where real analytics starts: -HR leaders see trends in one glance -Click any cell to drill to the people behind the number -Charts layered on top for dashboards (no export → pivot → paste) Junior consultants build a detailed list, export to Excel, and pivot. Senior consultants ask: "Is this a Matrix?” and keep the truth inside Workday. 3️⃣ Composite Reports...the 10% power tool ->Composite = “I need multiple reports to talk to each other in one story.” Core HCM example: Turnover with context You want, in one view: -Average headcount by quarter -Terminations by quarter -Turnover % -Maybe span of control or DEI for each org How a ₹40L consultant thinks: -Sub-report A: Headcount trend (Matrix / Trending) -Sub-report B: Terminations trend (Matrix) -Composite: Align by period + org, calculate Turnover % at the composite level Same pattern for: -HR scorecards (headcount, hires, terms, internal moves, absence) -HCM + Finance views (FTE vs budget vs cost center) -Leadership packs that used to live in 12 messy Excel files Composite isn’t fancy stuff for architects. It’s how you build decision-ready stories instead of isolated reports. 4️⃣ Where AI fits into all this ->AI will help: -Suggest fields -Build draft charts -Answer “Show turnover by region” in plain English But AI won’t decide: -Is this a list (Advanced)? -Is this a pivot (Matrix)? -Is this a narrative with 4–5 metrics (Composite)?
