Ecommerce SEO: You have to stop chasing broad and start optimising for intent to win traffic. Why? Because intent mapping helps you: 1. Build customer trust 2. Drive conversions 3. Build crawl trust 4. Rank for topics 5. Scale traffic I.e which pages link to which pages. What's the strategy? Intent mapping. You're breaking down macro intents into micro intents. It's worked well for years. But I still see brands ignoring this and focusing on broad. It's a grey area in digital marketing (who manages it? paid, SEO, email team etc?) Let's take an example trying to rank for "protein". Chasing broad can waste 12 months' marketing budget. ----- Founder: "Louis, we want to focus & rank for protein!" Me: "Okay, but ranking for sub-intents increases business profits" Me again: "Also, we'll eventually build crawl trust to rank for protein." Apply this example to your niche. ----- Think about the 100,000s of searches in Q4. Your customers don’t just search keywords like “protein”. They search 1000's of variations like: - Best whey protein - Protein for weight loss - 2kg mint choc protein - Massive gains heavy mass protein. Guess what? If your site doesn't speak micro-intents, a competitor's will. This isn’t an overnight SEO trick. This is good SEO or buying journey mapping. Even the LLM gurus might love this strat lol. I scale Shopify landing pages around buying intent. Buying intent is non-negotiable in 2025. You will lose paid and organic revenue with weak website buying intent. What I'm trying to say. If you're targeting a broad category, zoom in. Understand the intent behind searches. Build trust. Build relevance. Build revenue. Try it yourself: - Fire up Chrome - Plug in your [target keyword] - What macro/micro intents do you see? ♻️ Share this to help an eCom brand scale and "stop" chasing pointless organic strategies. P.S. The screenshot is an example of missing out on intent by not linking pages through the buying journey.

I stopped one of our clients' link-building campaigns immediately... They were burning resources. The links they were building? Pretty solid. ↳ Strong DA/DR websites ↳ Relevant niche ↳ Content that fits seamlessly But the results? Decent traffic boost. Zero ranking improvements. The problem was not the links. It was what came before. Their website was the real issue: ↓ Poor on-page SEO ↓Thin content with no value ↓ A site structure that confused search engines and users alike So, I hit pause on the link-building campaign and redirected the focus to fixing the foundation. We made three critical changes: ✔️ Optimized the on-page SEO with proper keywords and internal links ✔️ Revamped the content to make it E-E-A-T compliant ✔️ Simplified the site structure for better crawlability and user experience Then we restarted the link-building efforts. The difference? ↑ Rankings improved significantly ↑ Organic traffic soared ↑ The links finally delivered real ROI What did the client learn? Building great links can get you attention. But having a great website ensures that attention turns into success.

Most people think you need a massive SEO budget to move the needle. My agency, The Search Initiative, recently helped an online music education site grow organic sessions by 26.57% in 6 months. From 3,974 to 5,030 monthly sessions. No link building. No ad spend. Just on-site optimization on a compact budget. Here's the 4-part strategy behind it: 🔹 1. Content Optimization - Review your highest-visibility blog content and improve clarity, depth, and usefulness - Align content with search intent, not just target keywords - Refine headings, formatting, and flow for easy scanning - Strengthen the connection between informational content and your core offering 🔹 2. Site Structure and Internal Linking - Optimize page titles for clarity and click-through potential - Improve internal linking between related pages - Simplify navigation menus - Surface high-performing content more prominently - Organize content into clear topic pathways 🔹 3. Brand Page Optimization - Ensure your About page clearly communicates your background and mission - Explain why your business exists in a way that feels human - Articulate your value proposition clearly Use storytelling and real-world context over corporate speak. 🔹 4. E-E-A-T and Trust Optimization - Add clear business information in your site footer (name, address, contact details) - Create a dedicated Author Page with experience, credentials, and expertise - Add Author Bios across all blog content - Remove any ambiguity about who you are, what you do, and why you're qualified These aren't optional anymore. Google expects to see them. 📈 The Results: - Organic sessions: 3,974 to 5,030 (+26.57%) - Engaged sessions: 1,999 to 2,477 (+23.91%)

Many of you may not be familiar with the details of Amazon COSMO. As early adopters of these evolving trends, sharing more insights. ➡️What Is COSMO? COSMO (Common Sense Knowledge Generation) goes beyond traditional keyword-based search. It deciphers the why behind purchases. For example: Someone buys a memory foam pillow not just because it's "comfortable," but because they suffer from neck pain and need support for better sleep quality. By tapping into deeper customer intent, COSMO makes Amazon smarter at connecting products with real needs, improving search relevance, and delivering personalized shopping experiences. ➡️For sellers, COSMO means: ✅Listings need to be optimized for intent, not just keywords. ✅Backend attributes and product information (titles, descriptions) must align with customer search behaviour. ✅PPC strategies must shift from volume-focused targeting to intent-driven campaigns. COSMO rewards those who optimize listings and advertising strategies for genuine customer intent. ➡️What We’re Seeing Already ✅Mobile search results now push filters more prominently, creating a different shopping experience from desktop. This trend is just the beginning of COSMO’s impact. ✅Amazon’s relevance scoring now bridges gaps between search intent and product information. Products optimized for intent will rank higher organically. ➡️How to Stay Ahead of COSMO ✅Optimize Product Listings: Align titles, descriptions, and attributes with customer intent. Close semantic gaps by understanding the reasons behind customer searches. ✅Adjust PPC Strategies: Focus on ads that match search intent, not just high-volume keywords. Leverage COSMO’s insights to discover new, relevant keywords. ✅Monitor Search Trends: Use SQP and other Amazon reports to track changes in search behaviour. Adapt daily to refine your strategy and outpace competitors. ➡️What This Means for PPC Ranking PPC ranking for keywords may become obsolete, and COSMO will make ad spending more efficient in the long run. #amazon #amazonadvertising #amazonads

Amazon quietly rolled out this update a few weeks ago but it’s making a loud impact on ACoS. 🎯 🆕 Sponsored Products now lets you adjust bids based on distinguished target audiences. So, you’re not bidding on just keywords anymore. You’re adjusting bids for people who : = are ‘New to Brand Shoppers’ = have ‘Purchased Brand’s Products’ = have ‘Clicked or Added brand’s products to cart’ And that means one thing. It enables a more intelligent full-funnel approach where you’re not just catching attention at the awareness stage, but actively guiding high-intent shoppers from consideration all the way to the purchase point. Here’s how we’re building strategy around it: (1) New to Brand shoppers: Target them in those campaigns with low ASP products. They will have higher chances of buying your product and once they do convert, you’ve moved them down the funnel. (2) Returning brand engagers: Think cross-selling. Example - if they’ve bought leggings, then adding them to the gym t-shirt campaign would help stay top of their mind. The idea is to show your brand on their searches ‘always’, capturing their attention and becoming their ‘default’ choice. The entire update is more of a ‘subconscious play’ to efficiently re-wire your audience’s brain into choosing ‘you.’ Shoppers don’t realise they’re being remarketed to but they do start recognising your brand more often. While the Sponsored Display inventory is limited, with this new capability within Sponsored Products, you can retarget by blending more seamlessly into the shoppers experience and get wider reach without being aggressive. We’ve been experimenting with this since launch and the results are already showing: = ACoS dropped by 3% in just the first month. = Order volumes increased by 17%, largely from returning buyers If you’ve tested this feature yet, drop what you’ve observed in the comments.

Founder: "What Makes a "Superb" SEO Keyword in Ecommerce?" Me: "That's a secret I don't normally share. But let me..." A superb ecom keyword isn't just low competition. It's a perfect storm of 5 things happening at once. Here's what I look for: 1. Keyword Difficulty under 10 - The lower, the faster you can rank. - Most ecom stores skip low KD keywords chasing "big" terms. - Big mistake. 2. Monthly search volume above 100 - You need real people actually searching it. - Under 100/mo and you're optimizing for ghosts. - Sweet spot: 100-2,000/mo for newer stores. 3. Commercial or transactional intent - "Best running shoes for women" = buyer. - "What are running shoes" = browser. - You want buyers, not browsers. 4. Weak domain authority in the top 10 - Pull up the SERP and check who's ranking. - If DR 20-40 sites are on page 1, you can compete. - If it's Amazon, REI, and Nike — move on. 5. Specific to a product category you actually sell - Ranking for something you don't sell is useless traffic. - Every keyword should map to a real product or collection page. - Intent + relevance = conversions. A keyword that checks all 5 boxes? That's a superb keyword. Go after it hard. Most ecom brands I talk to are chasing volume and ignoring everything else. They want 10,000 searches a month. But they'd be better off with 10 keywords at 500/mo that they can actually rank for and convert. Superb keywords aren't always the sexy ones. They're the ones that quietly drive revenue while your competitors overlook them. --- Does your keyword research pass this test? Repost if this changes how you think about SEO for ecommerce. P.S. 9 Things You Should NEVER Say About Your Amazon Listing (And How to Optimize for COSMO Instead) Most sellers know they need strong titles, bullet points, and A+ content. But if your content isn’t optimized for COSMO, you’re missing out on Amazon’s next-generation product discovery powered by commonsense reasoning and real-world purchase behavior. Here’s what you should never say about your listing and what to do instead to align with COSMO’s six key strategies. ❌ “This title is good enough.” ↳ This assumes search is just about keywords when COSMO connects searches to why people need a product. ↳ And you’re missing the chance to make your product the obvious solution. ✅ Action: Frame titles with intent-driven language that answers the customer’s real need. Instead of “Adjustable Office Chair”, use “Adjustable Office Chair—Great for Back Pain Relief & Long Work Hours.” ❌ “Let’s keep the description short and simple.” ↳ This ignores how COSMO connects search queries to real-world usage. ↳ And you’re missing an opportunity to reinforce how and when customers actually use your product. ✅ Action: Expand descriptions with commonsense cues. Use phrases like “Used for blending tough ingredients like frozen fruits” or “Capable of generating a warm ambiance in outdoor patios.” ❌ “People will find this listing through basic keyword search.” ↳ This assumes keyword stuffing is enough when COSMO prioritizes intent-based search. ↳ And you’re missing the chance to match how customers naturally describe what they need. ✅ Action: Integrate top user searches and synonyms. Instead of just “portable charger”, include “Also known as a USB power bank, perfect for travel.” ❌ “This product doesn’t need cross-sells.” ↳ This ignores how COSMO maps relationships between frequently purchased products. ↳ And you’re missing an opportunity to increase order value by reinforcing natural buying behavior. ✅ Action: Emphasize complementary and co-buy use cases. Use phrases like “Frequently bought with screen protectors for complete phone safety” or “Paired with yoga blocks to improve stability.” ❌ “Images and videos just show the product—they don’t impact search.” ↳ This assumes search is only text-based when Amazon’s algorithms are increasingly multimodal. ↳ And you’re missing the opportunity to reinforce key use cases through visuals. ✅ Action: Use rich media and captions with intent. Add overlays like “Demonstrating how this blender crushes ice for smoothies” or “Comparison chart explaining why this vacuum outperforms alternatives.” Every element of your listing should align with COSMO’s commonsense reasoning framework, optimizing for intent-based search, co-purchase relevance, and real-world use cases. Amazon isn’t just about being found, it’s about being chosen. #ecommerce #amazonseo #amazoncosmo #amazonai #ai #optimization #seo #intent #context #customerexperience #amazon #amazonstrategy #amazonsellers #shopping #search #productdiscovery
