Unlike traditional sales methods, these strategies emphasize personalization, transparency, and long-term customer value at each stage of the sales journey.

  • Build trust early: Share useful insights and create engaging content so prospects can get to know your approach and value before the first sales conversation even begins.
  • Personalize your process: Tailor your questions and solutions to each buyer’s specific business challenges, and involve all key stakeholders to address group priorities.
  • Stay engaged post-sale: Guide customers beyond closing by keeping communication open, supporting their evolving needs, and making expansion simple and transparent from the start.

I watched a company lose a $1.2M deal last quarter because they were still running MEDDPICC like it's 1996. They identified a Champion and an Economic Buyer. They documented Pain points. They were textbook perfect. The problem in 2025 is that no single Champion can get a deal done. Sales methodologies from the 90s weren't built for today's buying committees, consensus-driven decisions, and distributed authority. The modern sale requires a complete methodology upgrade. No more obsessing over a Champion. You need relationships with the entire team. No more chasing generic Pain points. You need Numerical Priorities linked to business outcomes. No more vague "Compelling Event". You need documented, financially-validated trigger points. No more hoping for Decision Criteria. You need to shape it with objective benchmarks. The best sellers still run a methodology, but it's evolved. They're identifying group priorities, mapping out competing initiatives, and anchoring everything in provable ROI. Try this on your next deal…instead of asking "What's keeping you up at night?" ask "What are the top 3 numerical priorities for your department this quarter?" Watch how quickly you can separate real deals from wishful thinking.

I warmed up a prospect for 3 months on LinkedIn before our first call. They signed a £75K deal in 3 days. Modern selling demands a new approach: cold outreach fails, warm relationships win. Think about it... That prospect had consumed 47 of my posts. Watched my videos. Read my articles. Engaged with my content. By the time we jumped on that first call? They already trusted me. They already knew my approach. They already understood the value. I didn't have to sell them. They'd already sold themselves. Here's my framework for turning content into closed deals: 👇 1. Build trust at scale BEFORE the pitch Stop spraying and praying with cold messages. Start building relationships through value. Each post builds trust. Your insights mark credibility. Stories create connection. Your content is doing the heavy lifting while you sleep. 2. Let buyers self-educate on THEIR timeline Modern buyers don't want to be sold to. They want to discover solutions themselves. ↳ 70% of the buying journey happens before they talk to sales ↳ They're researching you before you even know they exist ↳ Your content is either attracting or repelling them Give them what they need to make informed decisions. 3. Recognize the REAL buying signals Forget MQLs and SQLs. Think about PQLs (product qualified leads) Here's what actually matters: - Multiple engagements across different posts - Bringing colleagues into the conversation - Asking specific, detailed questions - Moving from public comments to private messages These aren't leads. These are pre-qualified buyers. 4. Keep momentum BETWEEN meetings Here's where most deals die: The 167 hours between your calls. While you're chasing other prospects, your buyer is: ↳ Getting cold feet ↳ Talking to competitors ↳ Forgetting why they were excited Smart sellers stay present even when they're not there. This is where tools like Consensus come in. They let buyers explore demos on their own time. Answer their questions at 10 PM. Share materials with their team. Stay engaged between touchpoints. It's how you keep social selling momentum right through the demo stage. https://lnkd.in/ePVWw-Bi 5. Close with confidence, not pressure When trust is already built? When value is already proven? When buyers are already educated? Closing feels natural, not like a battle. The best deals I've ever closed felt inevitable. Because the relationship started months before the opportunity. Here's what this approach delivers (in my experience): ✓ Significantly faster sales cycles ✓ Much higher close rates ✓ Bigger deal sizes (pre-sold = less negotiation) ✓ Happier customers (they chose you, not the other way around) Stop thinking of social selling as "nice to have." Start treating it as your primary sales strategy. Your next big deal isn't in your CRM. They're scrolling LinkedIn right now. What content are you creating to catch them? #ConsensusPartner

If your sales strategy is still built on “Always Be Closing,” you’re stuck in the past. The old-school “ABC” sales mantra was great in the 90s, but in today’s market, it just doesn’t cut it anymore. Customers are smarter, more informed, and want genuine partnerships—not pushy sales tactics. So, what’s working now? Here’s what modern sales looks like: ⤵️ 1) Always Be Connecting: Build genuine relationships, not just transactions. Focus on long-term value, not short-term gains. Customer retention and loyalty are more profitable than chasing new leads. Use social selling to establish trust before the pitch. 2) Always Be Curious: Ask probing questions to uncover real pain points. Listen more than you speak (aim for 80/20 ratio). Continuously educate yourself on your client's industry. 3) Always Be Consulting: Position yourself as a trusted advisor, not just a vendor. Offer strategic insights that go beyond your product. Sometimes, the best sale is telling a client they don't need you (yet). 4) Always Be Customizing: Customize your approach to each prospect's unique needs. Use data and AI to personalize at scale. Adapt your offering to provide bespoke solutions. 5) Always Be Collaborative: Work with prospects to co-create solutions. Involve multiple stakeholders in the buying process. Encourage internal partnerships to deliver comprehensive value. 💡 In today’s sales world, the rule is simple: "Always Be Valuable." Your worth isn't measured by closes, but by the positive impact you make on your clients' businesses. #SalesStrategy #BusinessGrowth #ModernSales #SalesEvolution  #SalesTips #ThoughtLeadership

In 2024, we took a radically different approach that drove exceptional net revenue retention (NRR), with all customers renewing and expanding within their first year. Most SaaS companies claim they have a land and expand strategy. But let's be honest—many are just rushing to close initial deals and figuring out expansion later. I’ve seen (and done) this myself as an IC. Here are 3 things we're doing differently to maintain profitability in 2025: (1) Intentional Deal Architecture from Day One We've abandoned the "close now, figure it out later" mentality. Instead, we architect comprehensive deals upfront that map to our customers' growth journey: -Set platform pricing with included user counts -Pre-negotiate expansion user pricing -Define integration pricing tiers -Document future use case pricing This means when a customer starts with Gmail and Salesforce integrations, they already know exactly what adding Microsoft Dynamics or Tableau will cost. No surprises, no painful negotiations – just seamless expansion. (2) Zero Handoffs, Total Accountability. We've eliminated the traditional sales-to-CS handoff that creates gaps in customer experience. The same team that closes your deal stays involved in deployment and ongoing success. This isn't just feel-good stuff – it's practical: -Sales maintains strategic relationships -We deeply understand use cases -We spot expansion opportunities naturally -Early renewal conversations happen organically The result? We're not just vendors – we become strategic advisors helping shape our customers' trial and demo strategies (aka every CRO’s dream state.) (3) Aligned Incentives Drive Better Outcomes Here's something radical: our reps earn the same commission on expansion deals as new business. Why? Because expansion isn't an afterthought – it's core to our strategy. When you remove the artificial divide between new and expansion revenue, teams naturally focus on long-term customer success. 🤙 The Impact Yes, this approach requires more upfront work. You'll spend more time on initial deals. Your sales cycle might lengthen. But the results speak for themselves: >100% customer renewal rate >Every renewal includes expansion >Most customers expand license counts >We're seeing early renewals with expansion The old way of landing deals at all costs then scrambling to expand later is done. Today's market demands intentional, strategic deal architecture that sets both you and your customers up for long-term success. It's time to stop talking about land and expansion and start designing for it from day one.

Here's how I’m teaching SaaS sales teams to run a value-based sales cycle in 2025 tailored for finance approval (and why most deals still die) I’m working with multiple SaaS companies and sellers right now, reviewing live deals, sitting in on discovery, demos, and pricing calls. And across enterprise sellers, even very experienced ones, I keep seeing the same issue: We’re making enterprise selling way more complicated than it needs to be. So here’s a clean, practical breakdown of how I'm teaching sellers how to actually running a value-based sales cycle in this new market. Step 1: Set expectations before you sell anything Enterprise buyers want to be led. Early in the process, you need to explain: - How deals like this typically get approved - Who usually needs to be involved - What creates the highest likelihood of forward momentum - How the process will wok You can be direct: “In most of our successful deals, Finance or the CFO is aligned early. In 9 of the last 10, they had final sign-off ,so we plan for that upfront.” Some buyers push back. Most appreciate the honesty. This is one way you establish power. Step 2: Discovery is about isolating the business problem Discovery is not product education. The goal of discovery is to answer one question: What is the business problem, and what is it costing them? That means: - What’s broken today? - Where is money being lost, time being wasted, or risk being created? - What happens if this stays the same for another 12 months? If conversion improves, costs drop, or headcount is avoided: By how much? What does that translate to financially? You don’t need perfect numbers. You need directionally accurate business impact. Step 3: Quantify value before you ever demo Before a demo, you should be able to say: “If we solve this, here’s what it unlocks for the business.” - Revenue gained - Costs removed - Risk reduced If you can’t articulate that, the demo will be a feature tour or finance will kill the deal later. Step 4: Demo features through the lens of value Every feature must answer: What does this unlock for the business? Examples: “This is how you increase conversion by X%” “This is how you avoid hiring Y additional headcount” “This is how you reduce risk in this part of the process” Features without outcomes don’t sell. Step 5: Build pricing decks assuming Finance sees them Assume every deal goes to Finance. Because it does. Your pricing deck should be understandable to someone who: - Has never seen your product - Wasn’t on the calls - Only cares about risk and money That means: - Define the problem - Show how it’s solved - how the math and what it unlocks for the biz $$$ Step 6: Reconfirm value on pricing calls before asking for approval On the pricing call: - Re-anchor the business problem - Reconfirm the biz value - Make the financial impact obvious and close them on it If you want me to customize this for you or your sells team, lets talk and get into it!

Long-Cycle Sales Are Not Won with Pressure… They’re Closed with Precision. Most sales reps treat enterprise contracts like short-term quotes. Big mistake. You’re not just selling a service. You’re managing a complex decision-making process across multiple stakeholders, risk profiles, and compliance fears. Sound familiar? - Months-long buying cycles - Procurement reviews - Budget objections etc... You’re not in transactional sales anymore. You’re in enterprise sales. Here’s what the top closers are doing differently: 1. Build Trust Like a Consultant, Not a Closer 87% of B2B buyers say trust is the #1 factor in their decision. > Not price. > Not speed. > Not ROI. That means: - Leading with insight, not pressure - Admitting when you’re not the best fit - Knowing their industry as well as your own Your credibility is the contract. Lose it, and the deal’s dead... 2. Create Urgency Without Destroying Trust Artificial deadlines? Gimmicks? Buyers see right through it and they vanish. Instead: - Show the cost of inaction (lost revenue, failed audits, poor reviews) - Tie your timeline to their goals I.E. what's important to there business. - Offer exclusive benefits for early adopters Urgency works best when it feels like alignment, not pressure. 3. Guide the Buying Journey with a Mutual Action Plan (MAP) 77% of B2B buyers say their buying process is overwhelming. If you’re not leading the process, you’re losing it. The best reps co-create a roadmap that outlines: - Who’s involved - What needs to happen - What success looks like This removes friction. It keeps momentum. And it positions you as the pro who’s orchestrating success... 4. Engage Every Stakeholder… Especially the Skeptics Most pest control reps talk to their champion and hope for the best. Elite closers multi-thread across departments: - Ops - Legal - Procurement They ask: > “Who else needs to be involved so we can get this done right?” - They find the skeptic. - They win them over early. - They never leave the champion to fight alone. 5. Close with Proof, Not Pressure In the final mile, trust alone won’t close the deal. You need: - ROI calculators - Case studies - Visual proposals - Risk mitigation data Make the business case so strong… The only rational answer is “Let’s go.” What Sales Reps Must Remember: You’re not just selling a solution. You’re selling safety, reputation, and operational continuity... And if you're still relying on pressure tactics instead of enterprise precision? You’re going to lose. But if you’re ready to start closing like the pros? - Lead with trust - Anchor urgency in reality - Back it all with proof Then you’ll not only win the deal. You’ll own the process... Win with Purpose." --- ♻️ Share this post with a sales leader who needs to hear it. 👉 Click here: Follow me on LinkedIn: https://lnkd.in/eA7csH2q Join our community of 39,000+ sales professionals today! My client fired their entire SDR team on Tuesday By Friday, their pipeline had grown by 60% This sounds impossible It's not After auditing 50 B2B sales organizations over 10 years, I've uncovered the most expensive myth in modern selling: → The belief that MORE activity at the TOP of your funnel will fix conversion problems at the BOTTOM Let me share what actually happened: This mid-market software company was spending $350,000 annually on their 4-person SDR team - 100+ cold calls per rep daily - 17 meetings booked weekly - "Incredible metrics" according to leadership - But their close rate? A devastating 1.2% The VP of Sales was convinced they needed MORE outreach, MORE automation, MORE top-of-funnel I suggested something different: pause all prospecting for 7 days Instead, we had their account executives do something radical - engage with the 215 prospects already in their pipeline who'd gone cold after initial meetings Using a framework we developed: - 65 prospects responded within 24 hours - 41 booked follow-up meetings - 23 re-entered active buying cycles - 6 closed within 14 days (total value: $212K) The shocking revelation? - Their pipeline wasn't empty - It was overflowing with neglected opportunity. This company didn't have a lead generation problem. They had a lead nurturing catastrophe. By reallocating resources from mindless prospecting to strategic engagement, they've now: - Reduced CAC by 60% - Shortened sales cycles by 30% - 2x their close rate The counterintuitive truth: Sometimes the fastest path to growth is to stop chasing new opportunities and start converting the ones you've already earned. What percentage of your marketing and sales budget is focused on prospects who've already shown interest vs those who haven't? That ratio reveals everything about your future growth trajectory P.S. For my first 16 years in tech sales, I averaged 240K/year W2 income. In my last 4 years, I averaged 720K/year. In order to triple my income, I had to change my sales approach entirely. Here's what I changed: I started using a new approach that I now call Yo-yo selling: 🪀 Yo-yo selling emphasizes starting at the executive level, conducting thorough discovery within the organization, and then returning to the executive with a tailored business case. Like holding a yo-yo, you are constantly in communication with the Executive Sponsor and updating them as you collect information and conduct deep discovery lower down in their organization. You are literally going up and down the organization, but always taking everything back to the Executive Sponsor to surface your findings along the way. Here's a breakdown of the framework: 🎯 𝐈𝐚𝐧 𝐊𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐚𝐤’𝐬 “𝐘𝐨-𝐘𝐨 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠” 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 This strategy involves a three-step process: 1. Start at the Top (Executive Engagement) Initiate contact with a senior executive to understand their most pressing challenges, the reasons behind the need for change, and the consequences of inaction. If your solution aligns with their needs, secure their sponsorship for further discovery within their organization. To secure the Executive Meetings, it's essential to create a tailored POV (point of view) on where you think you may be able to help them based on your initial research of their highest level goals and priorities. Chat GPT has made this research a LOT faster now. 2. Conduct In-Depth Discovery (Middle Management) Engage with department heads and key stakeholders to uncover the day-to-day challenges they face. Focus on understanding their processes, pain points, and the implications of current inefficiencies. Gather direct quotes and insights to build a comprehensive view of the organization's needs. 3. Return to the Executive (Present Findings) Compile the insights gathered into an executive summary and business case. Present this to the executive sponsor, highlighting how your solution addresses the identified challenges. Tailor your demonstration to focus solely on relevant aspects that solve their specific problems. 🚀 Why It Works 1. Accelerates Sales Cycles: Engaging executives early ensures alignment and expedites decision-making. 2. Builds Credibility: Demonstrates a deep understanding of the organization's challenges and showcases a tailored solution. 3. Facilitates Internal Buy-In: By involving various stakeholders, you ensure that the solution meets the needs of all parties, increasing the likelihood of adoption. I'm pleased to share that that Yo-yo selling was recently awarded as a Top 15 Sales Tactic of All Time by 30 Minutes to President's Club, and I received a cool plaque for entering the 30MPC Hall of Fame. Since I have no chance of entering the Hall of Fame for my baseball or golf game, this is a nice consolation prize 😁

Cold Calling Is Dying. Here’s What’s Replacing It. The numbers don’t lie: • Cold call success rates have dropped to 2.3% in 2025, down from 4.8% last year (Cognism). • 72% of sales calls never reach a person, and it takes 8+ dials to connect with just one prospect. • Only 28% of reps still view cold calling as effective. Meanwhile, high-performing teams are doing something different. Research-Driven, Insight-Led Outreach Wins: • Reps who thoroughly research their prospects are 3x more likely to succeed (Clevenio). • Prospect-specific research can lift conversions by ~30%. • Insight-led outreach builds trust before a call is ever placed. Email and Social Are Outpacing Phone-First Approaches: • Personalized cold emails outperform generic ones by 32%; average reply rates are 8–9%. • 78% of social sellers outsell peers, and social-enabled teams hit quota 66% more often. Takeaway: 1. The call is no longer the first touchpoint. It’s the third or maybe the fourth; it’s only viable once you have demonstrable engagement via other channels. 2. Buyers start with research—so should you. Start with research. Deliver value. Leverage email and social. Then—and only then—call with context. You’re no longer the teacher like when you were knocking on doors. 3. This is how modern sales works. And this is how trust is built at scale. Welcome to the future, my friends. 🙌🏾 #NervousSystemsStrategist #SalesLeadership #ModernSelling #ColdCalling #SalesDevelopment #InsightSelling #SalesStrategy #SalesEnablement

"We're moving forward with another vendor." Every rep's nightmare sentence. I pressed for details. "Their approach felt more open. We actually knew what we were buying into." That stung. I'd shared: ••• Exhaustive feature documentation ••• Dozens of success stories   ••• Complete pricing breakdowns Where'd I go wrong? Days later, I got access to our competitor's sales process. The difference hit instantly: They didn't preach transparency. They lived it. Their follow-up wasn't an email avalanche. It was one collaborative hub where buyers could: ••• Monitor which stakeholders engaged with what ••• See their exact position in the evaluation journey ••• Find materials curated for their unique pain points ••• Manage internal distribution seamlessly My revelation: I was buried in PDFs. They were cultivating partnership. Next prospect, new approach: I built a shared workspace exposing EVERYTHING: → Which team members on our side viewed their data → Critical docs they'd missed → Realistic implementation expectations → Where we excel AND where we don't The buyer's response: "Finally, someone not playing games." Ink on paper in 10 days. Here's what's real: Today's buyers aren't starved for data. They're starved for authenticity. Yesterday's strategy: Bombard with polished assets that sidestep weaknesses. Tomorrow's strategy: Build transparent environments that tackle doubts directly. Your buyers know when something's off. Even when nothing is. Quit running sales like a shell game. Start running it like a glass house. You with me?
