The County of Napa prefers all applicants apply online, however if this is not possible we provide paper applications by request available only from our office at:

Online Applications
If you are applying online please follow these instructions:
- First, search through the job openings and job bulletins until you find a job you are qualified for and interested in. Select the job you want to apply for. If the job you are interested in is not open, you can request on online notification be sent to you when the position opens (see below for further information).
- Click on Apply.
- Next, create an account with the County of Napa. You do this by entering in a unique username, your email address*, and a password. When this is completed, you will have created an account with the County of Napa. Please save your User ID and Password, as you will need it to review the status of your application and to reapply in the future.
- If you do not have an email address you may sign up for a free one at Yahoo Mail, Hotmail, or AOL.
- Click on Create an application. Name your application so you can identify it later. Fill out the application as you would normally, the system will walk you through the process.

- Review and confirm application
- Certify and Submit application - if you do not receive immediate confirmation that your application has been received by the County of Napa we did not receive it. Make sure you save your application. If you lose your internet connection in the middle of filling out an application, all of your work will be lost.
- If you are interested in being notified of future job opportunities, scroll down to My Interests and check off the job categories that interest you so that you will receive automatic emails when a new job is posted in that category. Be sure to click the save button.
- In order to view your applications that you have submitted previously or check on their status, click on the CareerDesktop.

- How do I find out about Napa County jobs?

The best way to find out about job openings is to click on the Job Opportunities link. It will direct you to our on-line listing of current job openings where you can review job listings, job descriptions, and benefit information.
- How do I qualify for a Napa County job?

The minimum qualifications for each position can be found in the job description. Qualifications may include education or coursework, a specified amount of experience, licensure or certificate, skills, or knowledge and abilities in a specific field.
If a supplemental questionnaire is included in the application process, please be sure to answer the questions completely and with great detail. Your answers will be used as part of the rating criteria to determine your qualifications. These questions assist us in determining your abilities, skills, experience and knowledge related to the job. - What is the testing process?

The testing process is conducted in various ways, depending on the number of qualified candidates, and the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the job. The exam procedure may consist of one or more of the following:
- Written Exam: This exam may consist of either multiple choice, true/false, short answer questions, essay or on-line examination.
- Supplemental Questionnaire: An evaluation and ranking of applicants based on their responses to the questions on the Supplemental Questionnaire.
- Performance Exam: for positions requiring manual labor or physical fitness ability, an outdoor skills exam will be administrated to assess performance necessary for the position.
- Oral Panel Interview: structured interview process, typically with a panel of 2 - 5 subject matter experts.
- What are Supplemental Questions?

Responses to the supplemental questionnaire, if required, may be scored as part of the application screening process. Be specific when responding to questions and do not use "see resume". It is also important to know that each question receives an independent score.
- What is the selection process?

Once the testing process has been completed, the County of Napa Human Resources will establish an Eligibility List and notify you either by email or mail of your status on the Eligibility List.
Candidates who rank in the top six standings on the Eligibility List, are referred on to the County department with the vacancy. You will be notified by the hiring department who will set up the interview. Each department schedules their own interviews and notifies candidates of the results of those interviews.
If you interview with a department and you are offered a position, you may be expected to pass a pre-employment physical, a psychological exam, and a background check before a final offer of employment is made. Prior to employment, applicants will be required to provide proof of identity and authorization to work in the United States. Once hired, you will be required to pass a probationary period of one year, which is the final phase of the selection process.
- How long does the recruitment process take?

The recruitment process can range from a couple of weeks to a few months depending on the job classification and the complexity of the selection process.
- When will a recruitment designated “Open Until Closed” actually close?

Applications for the Open Until Closed recruitments are being accepted on an on-going basis. These recruitments may close at any time. If you see a position that is designated Open Until Closed that you are interested in it is best to apply as soon as possible.
- How can I tell if I am viewing the most current job opportunities?

Our job openings are posted in “real time” meaning it is always up to date and current.
- Can I submit a resume in lieu of completing the County of Napa application?

No. Applicants must always complete and submit a County of Napa employment application. A resume or other supporting documentation may be attached to the application to provide additional information but it may not be used as a substitute for completing any part of the application. In addition, you may not complete the application using “see resume,” or your application may be considered incomplete.
- Does the County of Napa only accept online applications?

- What if I don’t have email?

There are several Internet Service Providers that offer free email accounts: Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo or AOL. You can access one of these providers to register for a free email account.
- What if I need help applying online?

For assistance in applying for a vacancy, you may contact the County of Napa Human Resources office at 707-253-4303. If applying online poses a hardship to you, you can call the Human Resources Office to request assistance before the date and time that the job opportunity you are interested in is scheduled to close.
- When exactly do jobs close?

All positions close at 5:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time on the closing date of the position denoted on the job bulletin. Allow enough time to complete and submit your application before 5:00 pm. After 5:00 p.m., jobs will not be available for your review.
