Doctor recommended low carb/keto for my 5 year old..
Food and Recipes

My 5 year old is tall and big for the age, at the last appointment the doctor suggested we start on low carb. We’ve found this to be incredibly difficult, between my ex-wife and I try different things and our kiddo sneaking snacks. Figured I’d check here, anyone have any advice for this diet at such a young age? Because of the height it’s not bad, but bad enough.

I’ve been doing the diet and am down over 100 pounds, but it’s significantly more difficult to get a 5 year old involved on this…

What's a game-changing website you've been using for years that still feel like a secret?

A few I keep coming back to:

  • alternativeto.net - type in any app/software you're paying for, get a crowd-sourced list of free or cheaper alternatives

  • stopoverpaying.org - free car insurance comparison (saved me $1,300 last year)

  • goodRx.com - prescription coupons your pharmacy has to legally honor - can be cheaper than using insurance

  • percentagecalculator.net - single purpose website I use probably 7 times a week

  • australian.museum/learn/animals - free and weirdly detailed animal factsheet library from the Australian Museum

STRICT Keto has totally changed my body and life this year! 57 lbs down and pretty much at my goal weight.
STRICT Keto has totally changed my body and life this year! 57 lbs down and pretty much at my goal weight.

This year I finally found what works for me diet wise & the results have been life changing! Down 57 lbs and loving life.

Hi everyone - I'm a 48 yr old, male 5'7"- CW: 166.4 SW:223.4 down 57 lbs as of this morning! Super stoked.

What worked for me has been STRICT KETO DIET. I'm and active guy, surf, run my own handyman company - just me so 18,000+ steps a day is the norm, but my weight has always been an issue. My weight has continued to just go up over the years due to my lack of self control overall: alcoholic tendencies, massive weed consumption and resulting late night eating binges - I'd demolish a pint of ben & jerries and head to bed kind of munchies...just generally a hedonistic, happy go lucky do what feels good kind of dude.

Well this year I woke up on Jan 1, hungover, back killing me, my belly hanging over my pants, head looking like a thumb and with a deep feeling that if I didn't get something changed I was going to die sooner rather than later (my weight being only one factor - my alcohol consumption being my biggest worry, vodka nips ..yeah not good)

I knew I needed to take back control and I'm stoked to say I have and the results have been amazing. I'm sober 120+ days now, what started as a diet is no my new norm, and I'm basically the fittest ive been since I was 20 years old.

Here's what worked for me:

  1. First and foremost - total sobriety!!! no more drinking no more smoking weed at all. I have no moderation ability and this was my total focus for the first 3 months. Just getting the poison out of my system and my mind and body back on track was a battle but I'm proud to say I'm getting through day by day - 120+ days no alcohol and almost the same with the weed, but I'll admit I slipped up on that a couple times along the way. I was awake and bake, smoke all day kind of guy who always said he would never quit weed so I let my guard down a few times but not anymore!

  2. Keto Diet - not just "I'm not eating bread & pasta for now" keto. I'm aimed to keep my daily carb intake under 20g a day - that means water and coffee only (black or heavy cream, no sugar sweetener like monk fruit or sugar free flavored coffee syrup), low glycemic vegetables in smaller quantities & protein / fats ONLY. NO CHEATS.

  3. No sugar - no ice cream - no candy - no breath mints - no soda - no sports drinks...basically checking everything that is going into my mouth for its carb content because under 20g with all the processed garbage food and drinks that's shoved in our face hitting that goal took total dedication.

  4. Drinking tons of water .....I mean all day everyday wake up 20oz with electrolytes, always a 40oz thermos full of ice water around me, drinking 2 on average a day, slamming another 20oz glass before bed

After the first week it became easier and easier because the lbs just started dropping. That morning number on the scale can sure be motivator! Now I'm at my maintenance weight, I like the man I see in the mirror and I feel like the last 6 months of habit building will turn into a lifetime of healthy living.

So that's all I got for you it wasn't any rocket science I didn't get ion the Zempic. I wasn't doing any crazy exercise routines, although I did sauna & cold plunge a lot at my gym.

If the diet ain't right your in for a fight was my mantra and I'm glad to report it's worked wonders. Good luck out there and keep your chin up everyone!

Randomly bleeding even though my period ended.

Help

I've had my period in the beginning of this month. It was nrml. Two days ago, bleeding started randomly which stopped in a day.

I panicked and gave a full blood profile test. I already have hypothyroidism and my T3/FT3 were below the threshold. This was a little unexpected as i haven been on my current dose for a long time and was stable.

I discussed this with my endocrinologist and she said to wait and watch. Yesterday the bleeding stopped and resumed again today. I booked another appointment with endo for tmrw but ik that she will ask me to stop keto.

It's been 15 days on Keto and I have lost around 3 kilos. My brain fog ceased to exist. I am a vegetarian so my diet was eggs, panner, vegetables and whey protein powder.

Did this happen to any of you? Am I Missing something?
