Everything was perfect. And I felt safe and productive surrounded by amazing humans met on the road. Then, in a heartbeat, everything changed. A call from home, a family member in need, and suddenly I'm racing against time to get back to Paris. It's only the second time in 10 years that I've had to drop everything and rush back. You'd think I'd be thrown off balance, right? But here's the thing: I was prepared. Well, mostly. ✅ I know how to make quick decisions. Years of nomad life teach you that. ✅ I always have a "what if" plan before starting any journey. It's second nature now. But... ❌ I wasn't prepared for the emotional whirlwind. The stress of knowing a loved one needs you, and you're countries away? That hits different. It's a stark reminder: No matter how free we feel, no matter how far we roam, our roots run deep. We planned everything ourselves – scouting routes, securing sponsorships, organizing logistics, even prepping for breakdowns and medical emergencies. And it was grueling: 200 km a day for 12 days straight. Our backs and bums ached, but our spirits soared. That adventure taught us invaluable lessons about leadership, teamwork, and resilience. I was rejected 41 times… In 2018, I set out on a journey from Vietnam to Singapore—traveling by motorbike, bicycle, and hitchhiking. The toughest part? Hitchhiking. Even though I love adventure, hitchhiking always scared me. But I decided this trip was the perfect time to face that fear. My plan? Hitchhike 2,000 kilometers from Cambodia to Malaysia. The strategy was simple: go to a petrol station, hold up a sign with my destination, and ask for a ride. One rule: No taxis, no buses. It was challenging but an incredible experience. I met wonderful people, heard lots of stories, and learned about Thai culture. Most importantly, I started to overcome my fear. One day near Bangkok was particularly tough. I started asking people for a ride, but everyone kept saying no. With each rejection, my confidence wavered, and doubt crept in. But I didn’t give up. I asked 41 people and all of them said no. But then, one person finally said yes, and I was back on the road. It's so worth it and here's why: - They've bartered in arabic souks. - Slept under the stars in the desert. - Learnt history from the stones of pyramids. - Tasted food that doesn't come with a Happy Meal. - And understood that smiles speak every language. But the most impactful lesson? Adventure doesn't have to stop just because you're a parent. In fact, it's just beginning. For me, travel is about the imprints left on their character.
