In a world where attention is fleeting and virtual fatigue is real, how can you successfully host online events? Here are 9 essentials to keep in mind: 1. Start with a Compelling Opening Your opening should grab attention, set the tone, build anticipation and give people a reason to stay. 2. Make Eye Contact Look directly into the camera to create a sense of connection. If you're using a teleprompter or script, keep it at eye level to maintain that engagement. 3. Mind Your Facial Expression People are paying close attention to your face. They can see when you’re smiling, or when you appear bored, upset, or frustrated. Be conscious of your expression. 4. Manage Your Energy Your energy drives the entire experience. If you seem disengaged or flat, your audience will tune out. 5. Build Emotional Connections Use personal stories, relatable examples, and analogies. These human elements help your message resonate on a deeper level. 6. Engage the Audience Make your audience part of the experience. Use polls, Q&A, or chat prompts to keep them actively involved. 7. Be Clear and Concise Attention spans online are shorter. Get to the point quickly, and use clear language. 8. Use Visual Aids and Multimedia Use images, short videos, graphics, and animations that support your message. However, don’t overload your slides with text. 9. Check Your Tech Setup Poor lighting, audio, camera quality, or an unstable internet connection can lead to frustration and reduced participation. Test in advance. Hope this helps. I’m Temi Badru, a professional event MC for physical, virtual, and hybrid events. I also train individuals and teams in public speaking and effective communication. #temibadru #voicesandfaces #eventhost #mc #moderator #speaker #events

Regardless of how great your ideas are in your virtual sales pitch, webinar, or team meeting… People are most likely checking their email, browsing social media, or working on other things while you present. How can you prevent that and actually get your audience to pay attention? Here are 4 of the most powerful techniques we use for our own virtual training courses: 1. Win the first five seconds According to research from the University of Toronto, people need only five seconds to gauge your charisma and leadership as a speaker. In virtual environments, this first impression is even more critical. To establish instant rapport: - Keep your posture open and inviting (avoid fidgeting, crossed arms, and closed-off postures) - Use open gestures that welcome the audience into your space - Gesture with your palms showing at a 45-degree angle - Speak with clear articulation and energy from the very first word The quickest way to lose your audience? Starting with tentative body language that signals you’re unsure or unprepared. 2. Design your presentation for virtual viewing When designing slides, assume varied viewing conditions. Design for the smallest likely device and the slowest likely Internet speed. Make your slides accessible by: - Using larger fonts (24-32pt) - Applying higher contrast colors - Limiting each slide to ONE clear idea - Adding more space between lines when using smaller text - Stripping excess content (you can provide additional information in a separate document) 3. Vary your delivery Our research shows the optimal length for linear presentations is just 16-30 minutes, while interactive ones can maintain engagement for 30-45 minutes. People’s attention will go through peaks and valleys during that time, so try these techniques to keep their attention: - Vary your speaking pace (faster to convey urgency, slower to express gravity) - Use intentional pauses to let key points land - Adjust your vocal tone (lower pitch for authority, higher for approachability) - Shift between slides, stories, and data at regular intervals Each change helps reset your audience’s attention and signals importance. 4. Build in structured interaction Don’t make your audience wait until the end of your presentation to interact. According to our research, presentations that incorporate audience engagement through polls, chat responses, or breakout discussions maintain attention longer. For the highest engagement: - Use a variety of interaction types throughout your presentation - Incorporate breakout rooms for small-group discussions - Switch modalities regularly to keep it interesting Remember: In virtual environments, you need to recreate the natural engagement that happens in person. Your virtual presentation success isn’t measured by perfection…it’s measured by action. Master these techniques and your audience won’t just pay attention, they’ll respond. #VirtualPresentations #CorporateTraining #WorkplaceLearning

Drowning in Zoom calls and Slack threads? No energy left at the end of the day? 🥱 Zoom fatigue is real. So is information overload. It certainly happens to me. To understand science-backed strategies that get better results while preserving our energy, I invited Andrew Brodsky to Speak Like a CEO. Andrew is a management professor at the University of Texas at Austin, and the author of "Ping: The Secrets of Successful Virtual Communication". His PING framework is a simple, research-backed method to help you communicate smarter, not harder, in today’s virtual world. 📌 Perspective-taking 💡 Initiative 🎭 Nonverbal cues 🎯 Goals P = Perspective-taking Virtual communication makes it easy to forget there’s a human on the other side. Whether it’s a blunt email or a cold video call, always ask: How will this message feel to them? Clarity and empathy go further than you think. I = Initiative Don’t accept the weaknesses of a platform – fix them. Add warmth to text-based chats, build rapport before negotiations, or switch formats to better match your message. N = Nonverbal cues Your tone, lighting, posture, and even silence send signals. Be intentional. On video, your background, gestures and eye contact matter. G = Goals Start with the outcome. Want quick input? Use Slack. Need alignment? Meet live. Trying to build trust? Turn on the camera. Match the medium to your goal, not your habit. Our virtual communication has become a habit. Let’s challenge them and replace outdated routines with science-backed strategies. ❓ How do you ensure your message lands virtually?   ♻️ Repost to help someone improve their virtual communication. 📌 Follow me, Oliver Aust, for daily strategies on leadership communications.

It’s one thing to learn a skill. It’s another to know you can perform it when the stakes are high. As an RN, I remember the first time I had to make a critical decision with no time to think twice. That moment stays with you. With VRpatients, we bring that level of readiness into training, so learners can face high-pressure scenarios in a safe environment before they meet them in real life. This isn’t about playing a game. It’s about preparing for real patient care. In VR, you control every decision and see the direct outcome of your actions. You can repeat complex cases, analyze each choice, and refine your approach until the right response becomes second nature. The result is more than competency, its confidence built on practice, reflection, and measurable improvement. When we invest in this kind of preparation, we invest in better outcomes for patients and providers. VRpatients gives educators, clinical leaders, and learners a way to close the readiness gap without overextending staff or resources. The work you put in today shapes the care you deliver tomorrow. Let’s make sure both are the best they can be. #VRpatients #VRsimulation #ClinicalEducation #HealthcareTraining #NursingEducation #PatientSafety #HealthcareInnovation #WorkforceDevelopment #ReadinessMatters

You can't shortcut competence, but you can speed it up. Repetition is what turns slow into smooth, and smooth into fast. When you skip the reps, you build speed on a shaky foundation. That’s why immersive simulation in VR is so powerful, it creates space for deliberate practice without real-world consequences anywhere anytime 24/7/365. If we want clinicians to perform with confidence under pressure, we need to give them the power to own the process and have access to practice, not gate-keep the technology behind locked doors and a sign in sheet. This technology is more mobile than ever, let them practice on their own time. You wouldn’t require students to keep their books on campus, locked in a cabinet, sign-out required to read and study, would you? No, you want them learning at home, dog-earing pages, and highlighting text. VR headsets = A study tool Competency doesn’t come from knowing what to do through divine intervention. It comes from practicing until it becomes instinct. Here’s how to build that kind of fluency: ➥ It’s simple, let the students take simulation home. #Accessibility. ➥ Use VR to simulate real pressure every day. ➥ Keep your curriculum, keep you sim labs, and high stakes sim. Layer on top, VR sim at home. ➥ Track growth by tracking reps. And use AI for contextual assessment. Want better learners? Let them learn on their terms, on their time. The technology is here. Watch them bloom into competent professionals right before your eyes. What part of your program needs more time in the simulator? #clinicaltraining #immersivesimulation #medicaleducation #vrpatients #simulationtraining #competencybasedlearning #healthcareeducation #XRinhealthcare #futureoftraining

Augmented reality (AR), virtual reality, and three-dimensional tools are applied to improve training and troubleshooting at GE Aerospace. Looking ahead, AR eyeglasses, remote support, and agentic #AI could work together to provide real-time, contextual guidance. At the Customer Technical Education Center, GE Aerospace has used 3D tools and AR to transform training for service bulletins on the CFM #LEAP reverse bleed system retrofit. By converting a 600-page field manual into visual AR instructions that show where parts are located, how to remove and install them, training time has been reduced from five days to about three. Three-dimensional visual work instructions also helped trainees work nearly seven times faster. Teams using AR removed 35 parts in the first three hours, compared with five parts using a traditional text-based manual. GE Aerospace has used this technology to train customers. At the Pune, India facility, AR weld simulators are helping train apprentice welders in a risk-free environment without using raw materials. Compared with traditional classroom instruction, training time has been reduced by 20%, while precision has improved, errors have decreased, and operational readiness has accelerated. Digital visualization technologies can improve productivity, enhance quality, and accelerate training by combining contextual information with interactive learning for operators and customers.

💎 Scientists Reviewed 201 Studies on #VR. Here’s What They Found: This refers to the publication The Impact of Virtual Reality on Employee Training and Learning in Organisations, published in 2025. It was not a single study conducted on one group of employees, but a systematic review of scientific literature — one of the strongest methods for assessing the current state of knowledge in a field. The authors collected, evaluated, and compared findings from 201 previous studies published between 1998 and 2025 to determine the real impact of VR technology on training, employee learning, and organisational development. The study was prepared by Sofia Azevedo Carvalho, Ema Simões Conceição, and Isabel C. P. Marques from the University of Lisbon, Portugal. Their goal was to organise fragmented knowledge and answer an important question: is VR just a passing trend, or a real tool for capability development? What did they examine? ➡︎where VR works best ➡︎which skills it develops ➡︎what barriers exist to implementation ➡︎whether it genuinely supports business goals The conclusions are highly specific. #VirtualReality significantly improves learning effectiveness because it enables people to learn through experience, simulation, and practice instead of theory alone. Employees absorb knowledge faster, remember procedures better, and can repeatedly practise difficult situations without the risk of mistakes in real environments. The authors also point out that VR develops more than technical skills. It strongly supports decision-making under pressure, communication, teamwork, leadership, as well as empathy and emotional intelligence. This is especially relevant today, as many technical tasks are increasingly handled by automation and AI, while human advantage shifts toward social and interpersonal capabilities. The greatest benefits appear where traditional training is expensive, risky, or logistically difficult. That is why VR performs particularly well in healthcare, aviation, manufacturing, transport, safety, and crisis management. Companies can train people faster, more safely, and to a consistent standard — regardless of location. But there are also barriers: - employee resistance to new technology - the need for strong instructional design - the risk of rapid technological obsolescence The researchers also emphasise something VR implementation experts have known for years: buying headsets alone is not enough. Success depends on the quality of training scenarios, employees’ readiness to use the technology, and a meaningful connection between VR initiatives and business objectives. The conclusion is simple: VR is a stable, scientifically validated method and a strategic tool for developing people and organisations. If you see an area in your company where VR could genuinely accelerate training, improve safety, or increase operational effectiveness — let’s talk!

The digital boardroom is often a thicket of sensory noise. We invite people to gather in virtual spaces, but we forget to prepare the soil. We expect a harvest of ideas without considering the environment. I have seen a lack of structure cause brilliant minds to wither. If your meeting requires tracking moving faces, reading a scrolling chat, and watching a dense slide deck all at once, you are not hosting a meeting. You are creating a sensory storm. This is where "Zoom Fatigue" takes root. It is the biological exhaustion of the neurodivergent brain attempting to filter chaos. When the trellis is broken, the vine collapses. Below is The Virtual Inclusion Audit (Part 3). Here are my 11 ways to optimize your virtual classroom, boardroom, or gameroom. Over the last five years I have ran over 100 virtual training events and my TTRPG group just hit our 51st online session. I wish I would've been using these at the beginning. These field-tested shifts reduce friction between your ideas and the nervous systems receiving them. 11 Ways to Cultivate Accessible Virtual Spaces The Pre-Meeting Map ❌ Barrier: Surprise topics exclude those who need time to regulate. ✅ Fix: Send a plain-text agenda 24 hours early. This allows for pre-processing. The Camera Choice ❌ Barrier: Mandatory "Cameras On" causes hyper-vigilance. ✅ Fix: Make cameras optional. This saves energy for processing content. The Chat Discipline ❌ Barrier: Fast-moving chat boxes cause data loss for Dyslexic readers. ✅ Fix: Read chat aloud. This creates a unified audio anchor for the group. The Visual Anchor ❌ Barrier: Unexplained visuals exclude those with visual differences. ✅ Fix: Narrate the slide layout. This builds a shared mental map. The Transition Signal ❌ Barrier: Rapid topic jumps leave some stuck on the previous point. ✅ Fix: Use explicit verbal cues. This resets focus and prevents drift. The Processing Pause ❌ Barrier: Constant talking blocks information storage. ✅ Fix: Schedule "silent minutes." This enables deeper synthesis. The Sensory Buffer ❌ Barrier: Background noise creates Auditory Overload. ✅ Fix: Strict "mute" rule. This protects the primary signal. The Recorded Legacy ❌ Barrier: "Live-only" sessions exclude those with Brain Fog. ✅ Fix: Provide a searchable transcript. This creates a permanent resource. The Question Queue ❌ Barrier: Shouted Q&A rewards the loudest voices. ✅ Fix: A hand-raise system. This ensures the best ideas surface. The Caption Default ❌ Barrier: Asking for captions creates a "disclosure burden." ✅ Fix: Enable captions by default. This aids universal comprehension. The Collaborative Canvas ❌ Barrier: Verbal-only modes ignore those who process through writing. ✅ Fix: Use shared docs. This captures a diverse range of perspectives. The Verdict: A quiet garden grows best. Stop over-stimulating your team and start pacing. #InclusiveEducation #VirtualLearning #Neurodiversity #Leadership #Accessibility

93% of communication impact comes from nonverbal cues. In our virtual-first world, your nonverbal signals speak volumes about your leadership. After analyzing hundreds of executive interviews, I've identified 8 nonverbal signals that dramatically impact trust in virtual meetings: 1. Open Palms Visible hand gestures with open palms signal honesty and openness.   ✅ According to anthropological research, showing palms has been a universal trust signal across cultures for millennia. 2. Eye Contact Looking directly at the camera when making key points creates connection.   ✅ Most leaders look at faces on screen instead, missing this critical trust signal. 3. Head Nodding Deliberate nodding while listening demonstrates active engagement. ✅ This small gesture signals respect for others' ideas. 4. Upright Posture Sitting tall with shoulders back conveys confidence and attention. ✅ Poor posture subtly communicates disinterest. 5. Authentic Background A personal yet professional environment signals transparency. ✅ Research suggests artificial backgrounds can create psychological distance. 6. Facial Animation Natural expressions that match your content demonstrate genuine engagement. ✅ Flat expressions create disconnect. 7. Frontal Orientation Facing the camera directly communicates full presence and attention. ✅ Angled positioning suggests divided focus. 8. Mirroring Subtly matching others' pace and tone creates unconscious rapport. ✅ This established psychological principle works even through screens. The most successful leaders don't just focus on what they say. They strategically manage how they appear. Which of these trust signals could you strengthen in your next virtual meeting?
