Most professionals give up on personal branding because they're doing the right things in the wrong order. Posting daily before finding clarity in their messaging. Chasing Authority before they've earned Credibility. Building on quicksand and wondering why their brands never compound. Here's what I've learned coaching senior professionals across industries: A personal brand isn't built in a viral moment. It's built in stages. And skipping one doesn't accelerate the journey. It derails it. Stage 1 – Obscurity: ↳ You possess enormous value, but the market doesn't know it yet. ↳ No inbound opportunities. No leverage. No market signal. Stage 2 – Clarity: ↳ You stop trying to be all things to all people. ↳ You craft a razor-sharp personal branding statement and define your target audience (a niche within a niche). Stage 3 – Consistency: ↳ This is where most people quit. ↳ You show up week after week — A/B testing your messaging and pivot as required. Stage 4 – Credibility: ↳ Social proof starts doing the talking. ↳ Speaking invitations. Peer-reviewed publications. A market that trusts you because of high-quality thought leadership. Stage 5 – Authority: ↳ Your brand opens consulting opportunities, paid public speaking gigs and generates consistent organic leads. ↳ You set the price, and the client respects your value. The professionals who reach Stage 5 don't get there by accident. They get there because they mastered each stage before moving on to the next. I've seen brilliant people stall at Stage 3 — not because they lacked expertise, but because they never built the foundation that catalyses consistency. A stellar personal brand is a result of consistent, long-term effort — with deliberate sequencing of compounding actions. What else would you add? DM me if you feel your personal brand is moving slower than tectonic plates, or simply don't know where to start. #personalbranding #thoughtleadership #careertips

Occasionally, I’m asked about building a personal brand. Too often, it gets labeled as blatant self-promotion, or worse, bragging. But I believe it serves a deeper purpose. In my experience, the strongest personal brands don’t feel forced. They feel consistent, intentional, and human. And, they contribute to conversations that are already happening around them, offering fresh perspectives, powerful insights, and, often, a little levity. 1. 𝗕𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳. 𝗔𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀.  Your brand isn’t something you turn on and off because it's a reflection of you. For me, everything I think/say/share is grounded in my core values: trust, relationships, communication, achievement, responsibility, and fun. 2. 𝗢𝘄𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲.  What perspective, strength, or experience makes you better... and makes others better around you? That’s not something to downplay. It’s something to contribute! 3. 𝗚𝗲𝘁 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗼𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗴𝗼𝗮𝗹𝘀.  A personal brand isn’t just expression. It’s direction. Whether you're building credibility, growing a business, or deepening relationships, understanding what success looks like 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶 is key. 4. 𝗕𝗲 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗱𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴. Your brand will evolve as your expertise, interests, and direction do. I’ll be honest: I underestimated how much personal and professional rebranding would come with stepping into executive coaching after years as a communications leader. But at the core, what makes me 𝘮𝘦 hasn’t changed. And that consistency matters more than any title ever could. 5. 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗶𝘁 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻.  While personal brands are important, don't take yourself too seriously. You don’t have to be polished at all times to be professional. In fact, people connect more when you’re real, not perfect. I'm curious: If you've been hesitant to put yourself out there in the past, what helped you move beyond it? You never know when sharing your experience might help someone else!

BUILDING YOUR PERSONAL BRAND - YOUR CAREER GAME CHANGER Personal branding is about intentionaly building your reputation, credibility and a recognition - it is about how others perceive your unique value. In today's competitive landscape, having strong skills isn't enough—you need people to know what you stand for, what problems you solve, and why they should choose to work with you. It's a myth that it is only required for CEO's or thought leaders, the truth is that anyone who needs to differentiate themselves need to focus on building brand YOU. Whether you're a project manager, a sales executive, or a fresh graduate, your personal brand helps you stand out in a sea of similar profiles. Why Personal Branding Matters in Business: Your personal brand directly impacts your professional opportunities. It builds trust, advocates your skills and positions you as a reputed professional before you even walk into a room. When colleagues, clients, or potential employers can clearly articulate what you are known for—your expertise, your approach, your values—you become their go-to person for specific challenges. This visibility leads to better projects, speaking opportunities, promotions, and partnerships. How can you build your personal brand? 📌Be Consistently Authentic - Your brand should reflect who you genuinely are, not who you think others want you to be. Share insights from your real experiences, challenges you've overcome, and lessons you've learned. 📌Focus on Your Unique Intersection: What's the sweet spot where your skills, passions, and market needs overlap? Maybe you're the finance expert who simplifies complex data, or the introvert who builds incredible team trust through quiet leadership. 📌Share Knowledge Generously: Post or talk about industry trends, share frameworks that have worked for you, or offer solutions to common problems in your field. Guiding others positions you as a thought leader. 📌Engage Meaningfully: Don't just broadcast—have conversations. Build genuine connections within your industry. 📌Tell Your Story: People connect with narratives, not just credentials. Share the journey that led you to your current expertise, including the pivots and learnings that shaped your perspective. 📌Be Patient and Consistent: Personal branding is a marathon, not a sprint. Regular and authentic interactions compound over time to build recognition and trust. ➡Your personal brand isn't about self-promotion—it's about service. When you clearly communicate the value you bring, you make it easier for the right opportunities and people to find you. 🔎Ready to clarify your unique value and build a personal brand that opens doors - Connect with me to discuss how we can position you for the recognition and opportunities you deserve. ✉ www.sonniasingh.com #sonniasingh #sonniasinghleadershipcoach #leadershipdevelopment #PersonalBranding #CareerDevelopment #AuthenticLeadership #ProfessionalGrowth #CareerCoaching

I've worked with realtors, startup founders, digital product coaches, service industry owners, and MNC professionals. Different industries, different goals, different audiences. But some personal branding rules? They work for everyone. 1️⃣ Be opinionated about something that matters: Safe, neutral takes don't build brands. Take a stand on industry practices you disagree with. Share what you think is broken and how it should be fixed. 2️⃣ Share your process: Everyone posts about their wins. Few people show how they actually get there. Your process is what makes people trust you enough to work with you. 3️⃣ Consistency beats perfection every single time: I've seen perfect posts get 10 likes and slightly messy, authentic posts get 100. Your audience wants to see you show up regularly, not occasionally with something flawless. 4️⃣ Document your failures too: Perfect people are boring. The realtor who shares how they lost a deal teaches more than the one who only posts about closings. Vulnerability builds connection. 5️⃣ Help first, sell second: Every post should give something valuable before asking for anything. The people who focus on helping their audience always win over those who just promote themselves. Doesn't matter if you're selling houses or software or coaching programs... These rules work because they're about being human first, professional second. Your industry might be different, but people are people everywhere. Ready to show up on LinkedIn and build a personal brand that makes a difference? Send a DM. Let's do it together. 📩 #linkedin #personalbranding #marketing #startups #entrepreneurs

Last week, one of my coaching clients (VP of Growth) asked for help developing her personal brand. She realized something important: In 2025, product-market fit has become fluid. And as a result, job security is fragile. A “safe” role today can be eliminated next quarter. That’s why building a personal brand matters. It’s the one asset you take with you, no matter what happens at your company. Here’s how we worked through it: 1. Mapped her career direction. Did she want to stay in growth leadership or eventually pivot? 2. Defined her “lane”. What she wanted to be known for in the growth space, balancing authenticity and value. 3. Brainstormed themes + ideas. Content topics that would reinforce that positioning. 4. Picked her channel. She chose LinkedIn (and might experiment with Substack down the road) 5. Shared my content system. Swipe file → draft → edit. I was so excited, when a few days later, she sent me a link to her first post. I’m not a content marketer. I’m a growth coach. But this is what growth leadership looks like: investing in yourself. And if you’re a growth leader who’s been heads-down… maybe it’s time to lift your head up.

“Personal branding isn’t vanity. It’s VELOCITY.” For years, I didn’t understand that. I grew up in a deeply religious Christian household—where humility was taught as hiding. So I shrunk. I avoided roles that would put me in the spotlight. I muted my voice, even when I had value to give. But here’s the truth: Personal branding isn’t self-promotion, it’s strategic storytelling. It’s how the right people find you. Trust you. Choose you. And in the last few years, I finally leaned in. I started showing up. And the results? Clarity, confidence, connection and opportunities I never imagined. To everyone who’s supported me on this journey, Thank You. Here’s what I’ve learned (and what I now do) to build a personal brand that works for me: 🔥 1️⃣ Get Clear on Your Message 🔴 “I do everything.” 🟢 “Here’s how I help, and who I help best.” Your brand needs a sharp edge, not a blurry outline. 🎯 2️⃣ Know Your Audience 🔴 “This post is for everyone.” 🟢 “This message is for the person who needs it most.” You can’t reach everyone. Speak directly to someone. 📆 3️⃣ Show Up Consistently 🔴 “I’ll post when I feel inspired.” 🟢 “Even when I’m not in the mood, I’ll stay visible.” Trust is built over time, not overnight. 📖 4️⃣ Tell Your Story 🔴 “Here’s my resume.” 🟢 “Here’s what I’ve lived, learned, and overcome.” Your story makes your brand human. That’s what people remember. 🎁 5️⃣ Deliver Value First 🔴 “Look what I’ve done.” 🟢 “Here’s something useful for you.” Give before asking. Serve before selling. 🌱 6️⃣ Evolve as You Grow 🔴 “This is who I’ve always been.” 🟢 “This is who I’m becoming.” A strong personal brand grows with you—not against you. Bottom line: Your skills won’t speak for you. Your personal brand will. So, are you building one or waiting to be discovered? 👇 Drop one word that describes your personal brand today. Mine: Intentional. Let me know, I want to learn from you. Drop your views in the comments! ♻️ Repost to remind all about the value of personal branding. ➕ Samson Akinola for more insights on leadership, customer service, and problem-solving.

Personal branding is one of the buzzwords that keeps cropping up. As an executive coach who wants to help people reconnect with their purpose and passions and as a lifelong marketer, I can get behind it. A personal brand builds your credibility, helps you establish yourself as an expert in your field and communicates your experience and value to your audience and potential future employers. But how do you develop your personal brand? If your go-to answer was, “Start developing content and publishing it on social media platforms”, please continue reading. To truly develop your personal brand, the first step is to embark on a transformative journey of self-discovery. Only once you know your purpose, passions, skills and strengths can you share your authentic self with your audience. Follow these six steps to develop your personal brand: 1. Understand your purpose (and values) 2. Create a long-term mission and vision for your life 3. Construct your narrative – remember to be authentic! 4. Identify your target audience (key stakeholders) 5. Share your story (now this is where social media can be involved) 6. Monitor and assess how your brand equity Creating your personal brand requires a great deal of introspection and is not a quick exercise, but I promise you the benefit is worth the effort! Here’s a quick teaser. Grab a pen and paper and: ➡️ Write down activities which make you feel energized and fulfilled ➡️ Jot down your strengths by thinking about areas you excel in ➡️ Make a list of your accomplishments ➡️ Analyze and write out the skills you mastered to achieve your accomplishments ➡️ Map out your strengths, skills and passions to determine what makes you unique. The above exercise allows you to align your personal brand with what you genuinely enjoy, what you’re good at and what skills you already have, which will all lead to greater authenticity and confidence in how you present yourself. Determining your passions and purpose isn’t always a straightforward exercise, so if you need help reconnecting with yourself, I can help: https://lnkd.in/gWdegTdU #PersonalBranding #PersonalDevelopment #Learning #Development

Personal Branding Isn’t Optional, It’s Your New Resume Personal branding gets treated like a hobby. Something you do “when you have time.” Something for entrepreneurs. Something for people who want attention. But here’s the reality: your digital footprint is already acting like a resume. It’s telling a story about what you value, how you think, and what you’re credible in. If you’re not shaping that story, the internet will do it for you inconsistently. And inconsistency is expensive. Why this matters for business professionals (specifically) A strong personal brand doesn’t just create visibility. It creates access: Access to better rooms Access to stronger networks Access to opportunities you didn’t even know existed yet That’s not theory, that’s how careers accelerate. The most overlooked part: personal branding can also create community. A place where you feel seen, where people with shared values find you, and where you can give back in a way that’s aligned. The problem: time (and the wrong assumption) Most corporate leaders assume personal branding requires: Constant posting Expensive agencies “Being on” 24/7 It doesn’t. It requires structure. Austin Kleon calls it “show your work.” Not as performance as proof. You don’t need to manufacture a new personality. You need to document the real one. (Think: progress, perspective, principles.) A framework you can run in 30 minutes a week: Story + Proof + Path This is the simplest way I’ve found to keep it clean and aligned. 1) Story - what you’re about In one sentence: What do you want to be known for? Not your job title, your throughline. 2) Proof - what backs it up Pick 3 anchors: A lesson you learned the hard way A result you helped create A value you lead with when pressure hits Proof beats opinions. 3) Path - where people go next If someone reads your post and thinks, “I like how you think,” what do you want them to do? Follow, connect, DM, subscribe, book, attend, choose one primary next step. When Story, Proof, and Path are clear, your presence stops being random. It starts compounding. The “show up where you’re passionate” rule This is where authenticity becomes practical. If you care about mentorship, speak there. If you care about your industry, teach there. If you care about a cause, advocate there. Because passion creates consistency. Consistency creates trust. And trust creates opportunity. If you only do one thing this week, do this; Open your LinkedIn profile and answer: What do I want to be known for in 12 months? What evidence already exists in my life/work that supports that? What is the next logical step for someone who resonates? That’s your starting point. If you’re building a personal brand that supports (not sabotages) your corporate path, comment CLARITY, and I’ll reply with a simple way to map your first 30 days. Watch the deeper breakdown here:

Most “personal branding” advice focuses on polish. Headlines. Posting cadence. Aesthetic. Your real differentiator lives somewhere else. It lives where your claims have receipts. Try this three-layer check. If you can’t prove it, you can’t brand it. 1) Promise What do you do better than most, in plain language. One sentence. Example: “I turn messy messaging into clear copy that converts.” 2) Proof Receipts, not vibes. Show the signal behind the claim. Examples: artifacts, before-after drafts, campaigns, revenue moved, email reply rates, saved projects, referrals, repeated client asks. 3) Practice Habits that make the promise true on boring days. Examples: how you brief, how you edit, how you measure outcomes, how you give feedback, how you handle misses, how you close loops. If you want a brand that stands out, build a loop between these three. Promise creates direction. Proof builds trust. Practice keeps that signal strong and steady. A few things to think on that will help you find your edge fast: • What do people hire you for twice? • What do teammates send you work for at 4 p.m. on a Friday because they know you will land it? • Where have you taken something from “fine” to “unskippable,” and what exactly changed? Personal brand is not visibility. It is a pattern of outcomes people can recognize without your name on it. Make the pattern impossible to miss. #StandOutAnyway #PersonalBranding #CareerIdentity #ProveIt #LinkedInCommunity

𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝘂𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻… 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗯𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸𝘆. After working closely with top coaches and consultants, I’ve realized something: It’s not that you fear visibility. You fear irrelevance. And worse, 𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱-𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂'𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲. Here’s what no one tells you: Personal branding isn’t about shouting louder online. It’s about 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁. And you don’t have to “show up everywhere” to make it work. Here’s how I explain personal branding to seasoned consultants/coaches: ✔️ 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴. Your brand is the 3 sentences people remember when you’re not in the room. ✔️ 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲. Strategic, professional, authoritative—but human. ✔️ 𝗬𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴. You’re creating a network that already trusts your competence—but sees you more often. ✔️ 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗱𝗶𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. You don’t need to share your life to build a brand. You need to share your thoughts. If you’re holding back because you're worried about protecting your reputation— 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿: silence online doesn’t protect authority anymore. It erodes it. The market now respects leaders they can see and hear consistently. 𝗬𝗼𝘂’𝘃𝗲 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲. 𝗟𝗲𝘁’𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗔𝗹𝘀𝗼, 𝗜 𝗮𝗺 𝗼𝗻 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗱𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟭𝟴𝟲/𝟯𝟱𝟬. 𝗣.𝗦.
