A strategy consultant came to us with 22 years of experience and exactly zero inbound leads from LinkedIn. She had 1,400 connections. She posted occasionally. She described her profile as "fine." But nothing was converting. No messages from prospects. No conversations started. No calls booked. We rebuilt her system in 5 days. Day 1-2: Rewrote her headline and About section to speak to one specific buyer. CFOs in mid-market manufacturing companies navigating post-acquisition integration. Day 3: Built a content rhythm around 2 posts per week, each tied to a real operational problem her buyers face. Day 4-5: Installed the daily lead sequence — 20 minutes per day of targeted outreach and follow-up using our 3-touch framework. Within 6 weeks she had 11 new qualified conversations. By week 10, she closed her first engagement at $35k. A prospect who found her through a post and then received a follow-up message. No ads. No agency. No automation tools. Just a system that compounds. The gap between "LinkedIn does not work for consultants" and "LinkedIn fills my pipeline" is almost always infrastructure, not effort. Save this if you are building your LinkedIn system this quarter. #ExpertProject #LinkedInLeads #ConsultingGrowth #SalesSystem

Most professionals over 50 think launching a consulting practice means changing their LinkedIn headline and waiting for inquiries. That's why most consultants struggle to land paying clients. The ones actually generating revenue made themselves significantly easier to hire by building proof before asking for money. 10 portfolio career moves that make landing consulting clients 10x easier: 1. Create a one-page case study documenting a real problem you've solved with specific, measurable results - companies buy proven solutions, not impressive credentials 2. Build a micro-offer priced at $2-5K that clients can approve without lengthy committee processes - small initial wins consistently convert into larger retainers 3. Position yourself in a genuinely searchable niche - "supply chain optimization for mid-market manufacturing" generates qualified calls while "business consultant" creates noise 4. Leverage your previous employer network strategically - former colleagues now hold decision-making roles at other organizations and already trust your judgment 5. Publish weekly thought leadership content on LinkedIn addressing your clients' specific pain points - consistent visibility creates inbound opportunities 6. Offer a free 30-minute diagnostic consultation - let prospects experience your expertise and thinking before they commit budget 7. Join industry associations and attend conferences where your ideal clients actually gather - meaningful relationships happen before contracts get signed 8. Build referral partnerships with complementary consultants serving the same client base - strategic collaboration beats isolated competition 9. Create a simple one-page website clearly showcasing your specific expertise and documented client results - credibility matters when clients research you 10. Follow up systematically with every warm connection from your network - most consulting engagements originate from conversations, not cold outreach Your accumulated expertise is genuinely valuable. But organizations aren't hiring potential or years of experience - they're hiring demonstrated proof you can solve their specific problem starting immediately. We used to only worry about showing up on Google and social media. Now we also have to think about how we appear in machine learning tools like ChatGPT. People are already asking these tools who they should hire for legal work and which law firms lead in certain practice areas. If your name or firm does not appear in those answers you are missing a quiet but growing channel of influence. Here are steps you can take right now: ✔️Get clear on what you are known for. If your bio, website and social profiles are vague the technology will not know how to categorize you. Use direct language that reflects how clients describe their needs. Make it obvious what you do and who you serve. ✔️Align your digital presence across platforms. Machine learning tools look for patterns. When your LinkedIn posts, articles, speaking bios and website all reinforce the same niche you strengthen the signal. Consistency is not optional anymore. It is how you get found. ✔️Publish content that leaves a trail. LinkedIn carries strong authority because of its size and ownership. Posting regularly builds a library of proof about your expertise. The more relevant content you produce the easier it is for these tools to connect you with the topics you want to own. ✔️Earn mentions on credible platforms. Being quoted in articles or listed in rankings increases your authority. These websites have strong reputations and their mentions help validate you. Every reference acts like a vote of confidence. ✔️Create backlinks to your site. If another platform links to your website it sends a strong trust signal. Add your website link to every profile, podcast appearance and article where it makes sense. It shows these tools that you are a legitimate resource. We are still at the start of this shift. No one has mastered it yet. But those who take it seriously now will be well positioned as machine learning becomes part of how clients make decisions. Are you thinking about AI in your digital presence yet?

LinkedIn's most underrated features: “Who Viewed Your Profile." Yes, you’ve probably checked this out a few times, glanced at the names, and moved on. But here’s the truth—this feature is MUCH MORE than a vanity metric. It’s an opportunity waiting to be tapped. Let’s talk numbers: - Did you know that LinkedIn profiles with an optimized headline and engaging content are 21x more likely to get profile views? - And of those viewers, 60% are potential opportunities— • Clients, • Recruiters, or • Collaborators. So, when someone views your profile, it’s a signal. It means they were intrigued enough to check you out. The question is, are you capitalizing on this? Here’s a simple step-by-step strategy to turn the opportunity in your favour: 1. Analyze Your Viewers: Take a moment to look beyond the name. Check their profile: - Are they in your target industry? - Could they be a potential client or partner? 2. Connect with Context: Send a personalized connection request: "Hi [Name], I noticed you checked out my profile, and I’d love to connect. Let me know if there’s something specific that caught your eye!" This approach is direct but not pushy. It opens the door for meaningful conversations. 3. Add Value First: Once connected, don’t pitch right away. Share a relevant resource, comment on their posts, or simply engage with their content. 4. Create an Irresistible Profile: Your profile needs to work for you, even when you’re offline. - Use a clear and engaging headline. - Write a compelling ‘About’ section that speaks to your audience’s pain points and how you can solve them. - Add measurable achievements in your experience section. I’ve used this feature extensively to grow my network and unlock opportunities I never imagined. Some of my best collaborations and even clients came from starting conversations with profile viewers. If you’re ignoring this feature, you’re leaving money and connections on the table. 🔑 Pro Tip: Don’t just wait for people to view your profile: 📌 Atively optimize your LinkedIn presence to increase visibility. 📌 Share value-adding content. 📌 Eengage in discussions, and be consistent. Helpful, repost!

How To Connect With Your Ideal Client (Without Pitching, Pushing, or Pestering) Everyone wants “in.” - Founders want investors - Advisers want high-value clients - Jobseekers wants career opportunities. But here’s the truth: The people you’re trying to reach are bombarded with noise. And most outreach fails because it’s rushed, generic, or self-serving. If you want to connect with high-value decision-makers, do this instead: Lead with value: 1. Don’t sell - serve. Share insights, spot inefficiencies, flag risks, connect dots. 2. Study before you speak Understand their goals, their business model, their blind spots. Take more time and tailor everything. 3. Make their world a little better Introduce a key contact. Send a useful article. No ask. 4. Play the long game Follow up with zero agenda. Stay on their radar. Trust builds slowly - then suddenly. Be the person who helps first Not the person who pitches first. The people you want to connect with? They rarely respond to “Here’s something I want to sell you.” But they almost always notice: “Here’s something that might help you.” That’s how relationships start. That’s how business gets done. Good luck.

After 7 years of navigating sales and leading teams in price-sensitive markets across Southeast Asia, I've broken down my experience into these 10 lessons: 1. Leverage real-world examples: When addressing prospects' questions, anchor your responses in actual experiences with other clients. This illustrates social proof without sounding boastful. 2. Showcase intimate understanding: While discussing your product, be tactical, not theoretical; see #1. Display an in-depth understanding of the problem and the client's workflow. 3. Demonstrate first, ask second: Highlight the efficacy of your solution without pushing clients into an immediate commitment. Consider giving consultations, hosting workshops, delivering event talks, or writing articles. 4. Engage, don't oversell on LinkedIn: Stay active on LinkedIn, but refrain from frequent direct selling. Instead, genuinely engage with prospects' content and assist them. Ideally, they shall approach you first. 5. Outbound sales done right: If reaching out, ensure you a) contact 3 to 4 individuals within target organizations, b) A/B test email content and subjects, and c) follow up 3 to 4 times. Rinse and repeat. 6. Emphasize social proof: Populate your digital channels with client testimonials. Create a prominent “Wall of Love” on your website to host all testimonials and case studies, then distribute these across emails, ads, website, social media, blogs, and onboarding materials. 7. Build a lot of social proof: Consider the following to gather more testimonials: a) Offer to draft them for your client, b) Provide services at a reduced/no cost initially, and c) Incentivize the sales team not just for closing deals but also for acquiring testimonials/case studies. 8. Experience on the ground matters: Invest time in your target markets. Begin pitches by sharing personal anecdotes and what you cherish about that particular country. 9. Optimize commission structures: Continually refine your commission structures. Experiment until you find the sweet spot where the team is incentivized optimally for maximum output. 10. Streamline your deck: All supplementary slides should be in an appendix, displayed only if required. The deck structure I like follows this: a) introduce you and your company b) the as-is state c) why existing solutions are not effective d) requirements for the new world e) your solution f) demo g) social proof h) next steps What have I missed?

Job boards show openings. Palak Gupta shows opportunities. Here’s a secret most job seekers miss: Not every role is posted on LinkedIn Jobs. Many get closed through simple LinkedIn posts, before they even reach the portal. That’s the real gold mine of jobs. And here’s how you can explore it 👇 1️⃣ Go to LinkedIn and search for: “We are hiring.” 2️⃣ Add your field/industry (example: “marketing” / “finance”). 3️⃣ Switch the search to Posts (not Jobs). 4️⃣ Apply relevant filters — location, recent, etc. 5️⃣ You’ll now see posts from hiring managers directly sharing openings. Once you spot a role, don’t just apply. Send a message along with your application. Example: 👉 "Hi [Name], I came across your post regarding the [Role]. I have [X years] of experience in [Industry] and am highly skilled in [Key Skills]. I’d love to explore how I can contribute and would appreciate your guidance on next steps." This way, you don’t just apply, you put your resume in front of human eyes. Because opportunities aren’t always in the Jobs tab. They’re often hiding in the feed. #JobSearch #Career #LinkedIn #ResumeTips #Networking #HiddenJobMarket

Here's how you can leverage LinkedIn to find companies & product or design opportunities that are most relevant to you through referrals of people you're connect to on LinkedIn. Getting a referral for a position is going to increase your chances of getting an interview exponentially. Especially in the market that we're in now where there is a flood of applications for every new position. LinkedIn doesn't make it super clear how to find companies where you have connections. So in some recent conversations with others I gave this advice on how to get to a short list of higher potential jobs where there were people they knew who worked at companies with openings in hopes they could refer them. 1. Put cursor in search bar and hit enter. (This will do a blank search) 2. Select "Companies" 3. Filter by your location 4. Filter by "Software Development" 5. Through "All Filters" select "Job Listings on LinkedIn" and "1st Connections" 6. Select a company 7. Select jobs (They surface the most relevant jobs to you first) 8. Select "[#] connections work here" 9. Select "Message" and it will auto write a message to your connection asking for a referral. (Send or edit to your desire) If you have a particular size company, that will also narrow down the results to the size of company you'd prefer where to work. This will narrow down a short list of companies you can look into so see if there are jobs at companies in your city with people you know that work there. One benefit to doing this way is you can remove the "Job Listings on LinkedIn" filter and there may still be companies that have openings that are just not on LinkedIn since not every company posts there job openings on LinkedIn. So it will still give you a list of companies with people in your network that you can reach out to. This seemed very helpful to the people that I shared it with so I thought I'd share it here for others. Adding a screen recording of how it works for me. Do you have any tips and tricks you use for job hunting?

How to Get Consulting Clients Without Sending a Single Resume You don’t “apply” for consulting work. You attract it. Most executives make the mistake of treating consulting like a job search: ❌ Tweaking their resume ❌ Blindly reaching out to recruiters ❌ Hoping someone “gives them a shot” That’s not how this game works. Companies don’t hire consultants the way they hire employees. They hire trusted experts who can solve urgent, high-value problems. 👉 You don’t need a resume. You need conversations. Here’s how you start landing clients—without ever applying for a “job.” Step 1: Tap Into Your Network (Your Fastest Path to Cash) 80% of your first consulting clients will come through people you already know. Your past colleagues, peers, and industry connections already trust you. They just don’t know you’re available. Here’s your script: “Hey [Name], I’m helping companies [solve big problem]. Who do you know that could benefit from that?” 🚀 Example: Maxwell’s First $50K Client Maxwell, 60+, landed his first consulting deal by reaching out to former colleagues. Instead of asking for a “job,” he positioned himself as an external marketing strategy consultant. Lesson? Your first client is probably sitting in your phone right now. Step 2: Build a LinkedIn Presence That Attracts Clients Your expertise is invisible until you make it public. When companies look for consultants, they don’t check job boards. They check LinkedIn. The 3-Post Strategy to Build Credibility Fast: 1️⃣ Your Availability Post – Announce your transition. Example: 🔹 “After 25+ years in [industry], I’m now advising companies on [problem you solve]. If you’re facing [specific challenge], let’s connect.” 2️⃣ Industry Insights Post – Share a valuable tip, case study, or framework. 🔹 “Most companies struggle with [big challenge]. Here’s a 3-step framework I’ve used to solve it.” 3️⃣ Client Win Post – Share a real success story. 🔹 “Just helped [company] increase [key metric] by X%. The key? [Insight you applied].” Do this for 30 days, and you’ll start getting inbound leads. Step 3: Create a Referral Pipeline That Works for You You should never be the only one promoting you. The One-Line Referral Ask: “Who do you know that needs help with [your expertise]?” 🔹 Why It Works: It’s not a sales pitch—it’s an invitation to help. 🔹 Bonus Hack: Offer a free strategy call to build relationships before selling. 🚀 Example: Gordon’s 5-Week Sprint Gordon, a former teacher pivoting into software sales, had ONE interview in two years. After consistently engaging his network, he booked 50 calls in 5 weeks—leading to 3 paid offers. Final Thought: Stop Applying. Start Connecting. 💡 Your network is your client pipeline. 💡 Your LinkedIn is your credibility builder. 💡 Your referrals are your growth engine. Instead of sending out 50 resumes this month… 📌 Start 50 real conversations. 👉 Who in your network needs to see this today? Drop a comment or tag them below. 🚀
