    Supply chain planning can be understood clearly when it is viewed as one connected decision flow rather than separate tools. 1. Forecasting Forecasting combines historical sales data, inputs from the sales team, and relevant economic information in order to estimate future customer demand. 2. Demand planning Demand planning refines the forecast by applying business adjustments and cross-functional agreement so that the organization works with one single, approved demand plan. 3. Supply planning Supply planning translates the agreed demand into manufacturing, procurement and warehousing plans that are aligned with available capacity. 4. Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) S&OP focuses on balancing demand and supply so that the organization can meet customer requirements without exceeding operational constraints. 5. Sales and Operations Execution (S&OE) S&OE converts the S&OP plan into short-term, weekly and SKU-level execution plans that are managed through regular operational meetings. 6. Inventory planning Inventory planning determines the right levels of cycle stock and safety stock based on the approved S&OP plan and service level targets. 7. Master Production Schedule (MPS) The master production schedule breaks the supply plan into weekly, SKU-level production quantities while considering internal lead times. 8. Materials Requirements Planning (MRP) Materials planning calculates what materials must be purchased or produced by considering on-hand stock, open purchase orders, the master production schedule, the bill of materials and supplier lead times. 9.
