A good salary can hire talent, but it cannot heal a toxic workplace. I once spoke to an employee who had a strong package, a good title, and a role many people would want. Still, she said, “I keep checking job openings every night.” The reason was not money. It was the daily feeling of being ignored, rushed, and unheard. That is where culture speaks louder than salary. A good salary motivates people to enter the office. But a great culture makes them feel safe enough to stay, share, question, learn, and grow. For HR, especially in ESG and sustainability-led workplaces, culture is not a soft topic. It is part of social responsibility. A responsible workplace does not only pay people on time. It respects their time, protects their well-being, gives fair chances, and listens before people reach breaking point. Salary may reduce financial stress. But culture reduces emotional stress. And when people feel valued, resignation stops being their escape plan. That is the real power of culture. #leadership #hr #sustainability #esg #peoplefirst #workculture

  • 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴. Unlike traditional talent management, which often responds to vacancies, employee turnover and urgent capacity gaps, talent sustainability starts much earlier. It is not about taking action only when employees begin to disengage, but about continuously investing in their employability, engagement and development. The goal? Not to build an organisation that depends on a small number of indispensable people, but a resilient system in which knowledge is shared, emerging talent can grow and employees continue to see a future for themselves. The seven leadership actions described by Sheila Callaham in Forbes all point in the same direction: leaders must make talent development part of everyday work. That requires listening before problems become visible, having honest conversations about ambitions, creating space for learning and experimentation, and offering clear career opportunities. It also means paying attention to inclusion, wellbeing and a pace of work that people can sustain over the long term. Talent sustainability is therefore not a separate HR programme, but a responsibility shared by every leader. This is how organisations create an environment in which employees are not only deployed for what they can do today, but are also prepared for what will be needed tomorrow. Technology and AI can help identify skills, development needs and risks at an earlier stage. But their real value only emerges when leaders translate those insights into human attention and concrete opportunities. Because sustainable talent management is ultimately not about preserving roles, but about strengthening people.

Reward and Recognition is not an event—it is a mindset and a continuous practice. Reward and Recognition (R&R) is a powerful strategic lever that goes far beyond acknowledging individual performance. When thoughtfully designed and consistently practiced, it becomes a catalyst for building a resilient, collaborative, cohesive, and inclusive organizational culture—one where people feel valued, respected, and deeply connected to the organization’s purpose. Recognizing Star Performers: Reinforcing Desired Behaviors Recognizing star performers not only celebrates excellence but also sets clear benchmarks for desired behaviors and outcomes. It reinforces accountability, ownership, innovation, teamwork, and customer focus. Public acknowledgment of contributions builds pride and confidence among performers while inspiring others to stretch their capabilities and align with organizational values. Building Resilience and Collaboration A strong reward and recognition culture strengthens organizational resilience by encouraging employees to go the extra mile during challenging times. When people feel appreciated, they demonstrate higher adaptability, emotional commitment, and perseverance. Recognition programs that emphasize team achievements and cross-functional collaboration break silos, foster trust, and create a shared sense of success, thereby strengthening cohesion across the organization. Driving Inclusion and Belonging An inclusive recognition framework ensures that contributions at all levels—shop floor, corporate, support functions, and leadership—are noticed and valued. Transparent, fair, and value-based recognition nurtures a sense of belonging, where every employee feels important and respected, irrespective of role, background, or hierarchy. HR’s Strategic Role in Driving Reward & Recognition Human Resources plays a pivotal role in conceptualizing, institutionalizing, and sustaining reward and recognition initiatives. HR must: Design recognition frameworks aligned with business strategy and core values Ensure fairness, transparency, and consistency in recognition processes Promote a culture of appreciation through formal and informal recognition platforms Enable leaders and managers to recognize efforts in real time Measure the impact of R&R on engagement, retention, performance, and culture Enabling Sustainable Growth and a Future-Ready Organization Organizations that embed reward and recognition into their cultural DNA create an environment where employees feel valued as key players in the business growth journey. This sense of ownership fuels engagement, strengthens retention of critical talent, and builds a future-ready workforce capable of driving sustainable business growth.

BETTER than trophies and certificates: This recognition? It comes FROM your colleagues! ⭐Peer-to-peer (P2P) recognition programs are often an UNTAPPED well for boosting employee morale, engagement, and appreciation. ⭐ In a previous role, I noticed a LACK of appreciation within the company culture. This was confirmed by exit interview comments. So, I implemented a P2P recognition program using a software called Motivosity (not a sponsored post!). This platform allowed employees to give each other small cash rewards ($1-$5+) for any reason. The impact was REMARKABLE! We saw significant improvements in employee retention and satisfaction scores. One departing employee even highlighted the program as "the best thing to happen" to their division, crediting it with fostering a positive change in culture. Tips for getting started: ⤵ ✅ Choose the right platform ✅ Promote the program ✅ Lead by example ✅ Make it fun and easy ➡ Have you experienced the power of P2P recognition? #HR #HumanResources #EmployeeAppreciation #CompanyCulture #EmployeeEngagement #PeerRecognition

Businesses of all sizes are facing challenges at the moment, whether it’s escalating costs and rising tax bills, pressure on performance or a drive for efficiency and automation. As a result, it appears that ESG matters have fallen down the priority list somewhat. However, environmental, social and ethical principles are not just nice-to have initiatives – they are becoming essential to retaining and attracting talent, particularly among younger generations. With Gen Z set to make up a third of the global workforce by 2030, their demand for meaningful ESG action will shape the future of work. Our research shows that nearly half of workers aged 18–34 would be willing to leave their jobs if their employer’s ESG commitments do not align with their own values. This generation is vocal about their expectations for action, not just promises, and businesses that fail to meet these expectations risk not only losing talent but also damaging their reputation. https://lnkd.in/erMR3SSK

Employee recognition: a double-edged sword. ⚔️ Get it right, your team soars. 🚀 Get it wrong, morale plummets. 😬 ✅ The good: It boosts morale, retention, and productivity. ❌ The bad: It can create unhealthy competition, favoritism, and cynicism. The problem? Many programs feel generic and unfair. So, how do you find the right balance? ⚖️ It's not about a bigger budget; it's about building a genuine culture of appreciation. Here’s how to do it right: ➡️ Be Authentic & Specific: A genuine "thank you" for a specific task is more powerful than a generic compliment. ➡️ Ensure Fairness: Avoid favoritism at all costs. Recognition must be equitable to be effective. ➡️ Pay Fairly First: Recognition is an addition to fair pay, not a substitute. ➡️ Encourage Peer-to-Peer Praise: Let your team celebrate each other's wins. It fosters a more positive and collaborative environment. Recognition isn't just a program. It's how you show your people they're valued. How do you get recognition right on your team? 👇 ♻️ Find this valuable? The scale of our challenges and the slow pace of development call for more hearts, more heads, and more hands! Changing the world can, in fact, be as simple as ABC… 🎯 A – Aspirations: Clarify your organisation’s aspirations for society. What can the communities around you — and the larger society — become because you exist? Which causes will you support? Which SDGs will you intentionally contribute to? This clarity inspires a shared vision and stimulates co-creation across your organisation. 💼 A – Assets: Map the assets within your organisation’s sphere of influence that can advance the causes tied to your societal aspirations. Could you provide temporary office space, occasional use of your boardroom, proprietary software, intellectual property, media assets, staff buses, or fully depreciated but functional tools to power sustainable development? Impact is often hidden in plain sight. ♻️ B – Business Model: Make impact a core part of your business. Move from CSR to CSV by embedding social value directly into your business model and processes. E.g: ➡️ How can your supply chain include and empower underserved women and grassroots youth? ➡️ How can your distribution and sales channels promote inclusive capitalism? ➡️ Can you expand internship opportunities to boost employability? ➡️ Can your marketing budget elevate a social cause or drive positive behavioural change? 💪 C – Core Competencies & Capabilities: What superpowers exist within your organisation’s talent pool? These capabilities can be offered to social impact organisations on a volunteer, advisory, part-time, or mid-term secondment basis. Technical assistance from your teams can accelerate societal transformation. Make employee volunteerism a strategic priority, not an afterthought. 💰 C – Capital: Consider giving cash. It is less about volume and more about intentionality and consistency. Predictable, committed capital over time is a major lifeline for nonprofits because it allows them to plan, build, and sustain their impact with confidence. 🤝 D – Do It With Others: Partnership multiplies impact. Can you convene partner organisations, rally your value chain, or collaborate with peers to tackle deeper community challenges together? Think Avengers, not solo hero — the most wicked problems rarely yield to lone efforts. 🤼 E – Engage Employees: Involve your people in the entire journey. This unlocks powerful cultural and engagement benefits. Research consistently shows that purposeful and impact-driven organisations perform better on culture indices. Strive for an employee-led social impact strategy and watch ownership flourish. ✅ E – Evaluate: Like everything worthwhile, define what success looks like. Set clear KPIs, track progress internally and with partner organisations, and use insights to optimise social value and outcomes. What gets measured gets strengthened. The opportunity before us is not merely to give more — it is to do better, together, and with intention. #impact
