Losing control for seconds can cost you credibility for months. 10 real-world examples – and smarter ways to respond. Anyone can look confident when things are smooth. The real test comes when you’re triggered – and still choose calm. Here are 10 common scenarios where people “lose it,” how it hurts them, and what to do instead: 1. A colleague taking credit ❌ Angry confrontation creates drama. ✅ “I’m glad this project is moving forward – here’s the part my team and I led.” 2. Critical feedback in meetings ❌ Getting defensive makes you lose credibility. ✅ Pause, thank them, and say you’ll reflect before responding. 3. Being interrupted ❌ Snapping back makes you look insecure. ✅ Hold steady, let them finish, then calmly return to your point. 4. Not being acknowledged for your work ❌ Complaining looks like insecurity. ✅ Document wins and weave them into conversations strategically. 5. Tough questions from senior leaders ❌ Panic mode signals you’re unprepared. ✅ Take a breath, ask clarifying questions, and answer with structure. 6. Office gossip ❌ Emotional reactions make you look complicit. ✅ Stay neutral and redirect to constructive topics. 7. Email criticism late at night ❌ Instant replies often escalate. ✅ Sleep on it - reply with calm logic in the morning. 8. Microaggressions or subtle digs ❌ Snapping back gives power to the other person. ✅ Respond with calm clarity: “Let’s keep this professional.” 9. Team mistakes under your watch ❌ Outbursts erode motivation. ✅ Focus on solutions first, feedback later. 10. Unexpected rejection (role, idea, proposal) ❌ Taking it personally shows lack of resilience. ✅ Ask, “What would strengthen this for next time?” Your reputation doesn’t collapse from one bad decision. It collapses from one bad reaction. Which of these 10 do you catch yourself in most often? - - - 🔔 Join 9,670 leaders getting my 21-page Executive Presence Workbook: - 10 levers including confidence, communication, strategic thinking - Practical exercises to build credibility, influence, and presence - The same system that helped my clients land Director+ roles 👉 Link below to join.

You can’t afford a silent personal brand. Doubts cost you freedom, daily. An external force isn't stopping you… It’s the internal illusions you let consume you. ☑ Identify the self-sabotaging behaviors: Spotlight Effect Cringe: Overestimating how many see your posts and judging every word you write. Distraction: Mindless scrolling instead of meaningful engagement. Comparison Trap: Measuring likes, views, and connections against others, fueling insecurity. ☑ Understand the real obstacles: Decision Paralysis: Believing success requires perfect data and strategies before taking action. Personal vs. Useful: Focusing on personal opinions over genuine value for your audience. Vanity Metrics Addiction: Chasing impressions instead of true community-building. ☑ Implement these strategies to combat sabotage: Reality Check: Recognize that not everyone reads (or judges) your every post. Intentional Engagement: Dedicate time to comment, connect, and converse with your network. Self-Comparison: Track your own progress rather than obsessing over others. ☑ Develop a mindset for success: Embrace Imperfection: Learn in public and grow by sharing, not by hiding. Prioritize Value: Offer expertise that genuinely helps others instead of just voicing personal rants. Focus on Connection: Relationships over chasing larger and larger impression counts. ☑ Tools to help you stay on track: Time-Blocking: Schedule engagement sessions so distractions don’t derail you. Confidence Boosters: Keep reminders of past wins visible to fight impostor syndrome. Analytics with Purpose: Measure what matters—impact, relationships, and progress. ☑ Optimize your environment for growth: Supportive Circles: Join groups or masterminds that encourage your LinkedIn journey. Clear Your Feed: Mute, unfollow, or reduce content that triggers comparisons or doubt Structured Routines: Create consistent posting habits to overcome hesitation. ☑ Top tips for maintaining momentum: Post Consistently: Overcome the cringe feeling by taking action repeatedly. Reward Incremental Wins: Celebrate every milestone to keep motivation high. Keep Learning: Seek feedback, refine your approach, and always move forward. ☑ Ensure every action aligns with your goals. Adopt a strategy that includes: Clarity of Purpose: Know whom you serve. Consistent Execution: Show up every day. Resilient Mindset: Obstacles are part of the process. Act despite the illusions. The real villain isn’t out there. It’s within.

I constantly get recruiter reachouts from big tech companies and top AI startups- even when I’m not actively job hunting or listed as “Open to Work.” That’s because over the years, I’ve consciously put in the effort to build a clear and consistent presence on LinkedIn- one that reflects what I do, what I care about, and the kind of work I want to be known for. And the best part? It’s something anyone can do- with the right strategy and a bit of consistency. If you’re tired of applying to dozens of jobs with no reply, here are 5 powerful LinkedIn upgrades that will make recruiters come to you: 1. Quietly activate “Open to Work” Even if you’re not searching, turning this on boosts your visibility in recruiter filters. → Turn it on under your profile → “Open to” → “Finding a new job” → Choose “Recruiters only” visibility → Specify target titles and locations clearly (e.g., “Machine Learning Engineer – Computer Vision, Remote”) Why it works: Recruiters rely on this filter to find passive yet qualified candidates. 2. Treat your headline like SEO + your elevator pitch Your headline is key real estate- use it to clearly communicate role, expertise, and value. Weak example: “Software Developer at XYZ Company” → Generic and not searchable. Strong example: “ML Engineer | Computer Vision for Autonomous Systems | PyTorch, TensorRT Specialist” → Role: ML Engineer → Niche: computer vision in autonomous systems → Tools: PyTorch, TensorRT This structure reflects best practices from experts who recommend combining role, specialization, technical skills, and context to stand out. 3. Upgrade your visuals to build trust → Use a crisp headshot: natural light, simple background, friendly expression → Add a banner that reinforces your brand: you working, speaking, or a tagline with tools/logos Why it works: Clean visuals increase profile views and instantly project credibility. 4. Rewrite your “About” section as a human story Skip the bullet list, tell a narrative in three parts: → Intro: “I’m an ML engineer specializing in computer vision models for autonomous systems.” → Expertise: “I build end‑to‑end pipelines using PyTorch and TensorRT, optimizing real‑time inference for edge deployment.” → Motivation: “I’m passionate about enabling safer autonomy through efficient vision AI, let’s connect if you’re building in that space.” Why it works: Authentic storytelling creates memorability and emotional resonance . 5. Be the advocate for your work Make your profile act like a portfolio, not just a resume. → Under each role, add 2–4 bullet points with measurable outcomes and tools (e.g., “Reduced inference latency by 35% using INT8 quantization in TensorRT”) → In the Featured section, highlight demos, whitepapers, GitHub repos, or tech talks Give yourself five intentional profile upgrades this week. Then sit back and watch recruiters start reaching you, even in today’s competitive market.

Day 5 of teaching A to Z of LinkedIn .Today E = ENGAGEMENT :The Currency of LinkedIn Growth . Content creation gets you visibility. Engagement builds relationships. Let me break it down: LinkedIn promotes content that’s engaged with. If you engage with others consistently, your name and face show up more, and the algorithm understands: 📌 You’re an active user = more reach for your content too. Even if you aren't posting everyday ,don't forget to engage!! 📌 Relationship > Reach You can have 50k followers and still feel invisible. But if 50 people consistently engage with you, you’ll always feel seen. Engagement is how you go from “random profile” to “that person I always see on my feed.” 📌 Comments are Content If your comment on someone else’s post adds value, it can get hundreds of likes on its own.I’ve landed invitations, podcast calls, and clients through comments and it's all just by sharing one thoughtful line under the right post. 🍪 What Smart Engagement Looks Like: 📌 3–2–1 Rule for Daily Engagement: 3 meaningful comments on others’ posts 2 replies to DMs or comment threads 1 reshare or tag someone 🍪 Use the “Search” bar smartly: 📌 Search your niche or keyword 📌 Sort by “posts” 📌 Engage with recent content to be noticed by the people you want to be noticed by 🍪 Engage up, down, and sideways 📌 Up = people with bigger audiences 📌 Down = people starting out (they appreciate support) 📌 Sideways = people at your level (build your tribe!) 🍪 Common Mistakes to Avoid: ❌ Leaving one-word comments like “Agreed!” (Add a point. Start a discussion.) ❌ Engaging only with verified accounts (Real gems are hidden in small creators too.) ❌ Ghosting your own comments section (If someone replies, reply back) 🍪 Pro Tip: Turn engagement into connections. 📌 Don’t just “like and leave.” 📌 After 2–3 solid interactions, send a DM: (read my last post where I teach about D for Direct Messages) 🍪 Final Word: If you want to grow on LinkedIn PLEASE stop thinking like a broadcaster. Start behaving like a connector. Be the person who: ✅ Starts conversations ✅ Joins conversations ✅ Makes others feel heard Any suggestions for Letter F for Tomorrow? #linkedin #linkedingrowth #riyagadhwal

5 Ways to Take Criticism Without Shutting Down: (high performers hear it differently) Most people hear criticism as an attack. High performers hear it as intelligence. Here's how they do it differently: 1/ Pause Before You Respond → Your first reaction is always emotional. → Count to three before speaking. → Defensiveness lives in the immediate response. → Wisdom lives in the pause. 2/ Ask "What's the Outcome They Want?" → Criticism isn't about you being wrong. → It's about them wanting something better. → Focus on their goal, not your ego. → This shifts you from defense to problem-solving. 3/ Repeat Back What You Heard → "So you're saying [specific behavior] is creating [specific problem]?" → This forces clarity instead of assumptions. → Most criticism fails because of misunderstanding. → Confirmation prevents escalation. 4/ Mine for the Specific Behavior → Don't accept vague feedback. → Ask "can you give me an example of when I did that?" → Specifics are actionable. → Generalizations just create resentment. 5/ Thank Them for the Risk → Giving criticism is uncomfortable. → Acknowledge they could have stayed silent. → "Thank you for caring enough to say something." → This creates safety for future feedback. Defensiveness kills learning. Curiosity accelerates it. The criticism you resist is often the growth you need most. ♻️ Repost and follow Justin Bateh, PhD for more.

After years of observing hiring patterns, I've noticed something counterintuitive: publicly displaying the green "Open to Work" banner on your profile can actually decrease your chances of securing premium opportunities.   Here's a more strategic approach: 1. Remove the public-facing "Open to Work" banner from your profile. 2. Instead, use LinkedIn's private job seeking features and update your career interests and job preferences where only recruiters can see them. 3. Select "Recruiters Only" in your visibility settings This ensures hiring professionals can discover your availability without broadcasting it. 4. Focus on strengthening your profile content by updating your skills, experiences, and accomplishments to naturally attract interest.   The psychology behind this approach is simple: Candidates who appear selective and in-demand generate more interest than those who seem eager for any opportunity.   Recruiters are already actively searching for qualified talent whether or not you display availability.   This subtle shift in strategy maintains your professional leverage while still ensuring you're discoverable to the right opportunities.   What LinkedIn strategies have you found most effective in your professional journey?   Check out my newsletter for more insights here: https://lnkd.in/ei_uQjju   #executiverecruiter #eliterecruiter #jobmarket2025 #profoliosai #resume #jobstrategy #professionalcommunication #linkedinoptimization #jobsearchstrategy #careeradvancement

“𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮 𝗽𝗶𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲, 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗜 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝘁?” That’s what my friend said when I asked her to update her LinkedIn profile photo. What she didn’t know? It was costing her opportunities. 📸 Your profile picture is the first impression you make on LinkedIn. And first impressions on this platform are often made in 0.4 seconds, literally. Here's why your profile pic matters more than you think: ✅ Profiles with photos get 21x more views and 36x more messages. ✅ A clear, friendly, well-lit picture increases trust, approachability, and professionalism. ✅ Recruiters often scan 100s of profiles. No photo = skipped. Casual selfie = dismissed. A great LinkedIn profile picture doesn’t mean a formal studio shoot. It just needs: – Neutral background – Clear lighting – Solo headshot (not cropped from a group pic!) – A natural, approachable expression 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸: 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗹𝘆, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰. I'm surprised more people don't start their own coaching or consulting business using LinkedIn. So many of my corporate friends have incredible expertise. They solve complex problems daily, lead teams, drive results. But when I suggest they could turn that into a coaching or consulting business, the response is always the same: "Who would pay me for what I already know?" And then there are the coaches I know who already started their business but are stuck in feast-or-famine mode. Great at what they do, but struggling to get clients consistently. Here's what I've learned after working with both groups: Your expertise isn't the problem. The challenge is that most of us were never taught how to package our knowledge or consistently find the people who need it. That's where LinkedIn comes in. I used to think LinkedIn was just for job hunting. Turns out, it's the best place to connect with people who have the exact problems you've been solving for years. It is THE best place to build a coaching business organically (no ads required). A few months ago, I teamed up with other successful 6/7-figure coaches Adam Broda, Daniel Botero and launched something called the LinkedIn Coaches Accelerator - a 12-week program to help people turn their expertise into a thriving coaching business using LinkedIn. Some highlights from our first cohort blew us away: -Someone landed 25 clients -Another client made $30K while in the program -Several people landed their first $5K-$25K clients within weeks One person 2x’d their followers and increased their LinkedIn reach by 18,279% (yes, this number is correct) On average, people in our first cohort got an average of 4 high-ticket clients while working with us. The common thread? They all started where you might be right now…either thinking about coaching or struggling to get consistent clients. We're now accepting applications for our second cohort. It's designed for two types of people: → Corporate professionals ready to monetize their expertise → Existing coaches who want consistent client flow (no more feast or famine) What we cover: → How to package your experience into something people will pay for  → LinkedIn strategies that feel authentic (no sales-y tactics)  → How to have sales conversations that don't make you cringe  → Building a business that works around your life, not the other way around Our promise: Help you land 3 clients in 12 weeks, or we keep working with you until you do. If you've been thinking about this transition or you're tired of the client rollercoaster, now might be the time. Application here → https://lnkd.in/gzY6-yYj P.S. I'm dropping my LinkedIn strategy guide below.  Use what helps, ignore what doesn't. Just wanted to share what's been working! ⬇️

No Profile Picture = No Trust = No Opportunities. LinkedIn is such a beautiful place to build great connections, showcase your expertise, and open doors to opportunities. But if your profile doesn’t have a headshot, you’re unintentionally putting up a barrier between yourself and your goals. Here’s why a headshot is a must-have: 🌸 It Builds Trust and Credibility People connect with people, not faceless profiles. A great headshot shows you’re professional, approachable, and invested in how you present yourself. 🌸 It Makes You Memorable Your profile picture is often the first thing people notice. It helps others associate a face with your name, making you more memorable when opportunities arise. 🌸 It Sets the Tone for Your Personal Brand Your photo says a lot about you. Whether you want to appear polished, creative, or friendly, a professional headshot helps convey the right message. 🌸 It Demonstrates Effort A clear, high-quality image shows that you care about how you’re perceived online. That effort speaks volumes about your attention to detail and professionalism. 🌸 It’s a Gateway to Opportunities Hiring managers, clients, and collaborators are more likely to engage with profiles that feel personal and complete. A headshot can open doors that a blank profile won’t. I understand that not everyone has access to professional photography—and that’s ok! A simple, well-lit photo taken with your phone can work. Find a neutral background, dress, and smile. Use what you have to take that first step, your profile is your digital introduction. 📸 🌸
