    The agricultural industry is undergoing a massive evolution, compounded by the need to adapt to a changing climate, labor shortages, and other unpredictable conditions that can impact crop yield and have long-term implications for our environment and food security.   Precision agriculture (PA) is transforming the future of farming, making work more efficient with autonomous machinery and robotic systems, using sensors and drones to monitor soil health and predict weather conditions, and enabling rapid analysis of this data to inform critical, real-time decision making. Despite its enormous potential, some barriers remain that impact PA adoption. One is the obvious challenge of connectivity, which can be particularly tricky in rural or remote areas with little digital infrastructure. Another top concern for farmers cited in a recent study is data privacy (https://lnkd.in/grmf-MKq).   Edge computing is all about bringing new solutions to challenging scenarios.     #The_Future_of_Pomegranate_Farming: Collaboration Over Competition Traditionally, pomegranate farming was limited to a few select farmers who closely guarded their knowledge and techniques. There was little to no exchange of experiences, and any new agricultural input was kept secret. Farmers would even destroy pesticide bottles after use to prevent competitors from knowing their strategies. This secrecy had consequences. New farmers hesitated to enter pomegranate farming due to its perceived high costs and risks. Existing farmers would often discourage newcomers by highlighting challenges—yet they themselves continued expanding their orchards. Those who did take the plunge, often fell victim to poor guidance, leading to financial losses and ultimately, crop abandonment within a few years. A New Era: Collective Growth and Knowledge Sharing In the past few years, social media and farmer networks have transformed pomegranate farming. Today, educated and young farmers are joining forces, forming local groups, exchanging knowledge, and verifying agricultural practices collectively. Farmers now travel together to exhibitions, evaluate new techniques, and implement proven methods as a group. This transparency has helped reduce unnecessary costs while ensuring higher productivity and profitability. No longer is information hoarded—it is now shared freely, leading to better decision-making on fertilizers, pesticides, machinery, planting material, and expert guidance. The results are clear: a more structured, sustainable, and profitable farming model. Our Commitment to Farmer Empowerment I have been fortunate to contribute to this movement by guiding farmers, connecting them with resources, and helping them adopt best practices. Meeting groups of farmers and addressing their queries in one go ensures that everyone gets accurate and actionable information. If similar knowledge-sharing efforts extend to market access, sales strategies, and value addition, agriculture can become even more lucrative—on par with, or even exceeding, high-paying corporate jobs. A New Farmer Collective in Belapur, Shrirampur Yesterday marked the formation of a new pomegranate farmer group in Belapur, Shrirampur. In an area traditionally dominated by sugarcane and onion cultivation, 20-25 farmers have taken the bold step of planting pomegranates. Under the leadership of Shri Pramod Musmade, this initiative has begun, and I had the privilege of providing a full-day guidance session. Moving forward, these farmers will receive monthly support to ensure success. With the right approach, black soil can also yield thriving pomegranate orchards. The goal is simple—maximize per-acre profitability while ensuring sustainable farming practices. This is just the beginning. Together, we can reshape Indian agriculture.     Everyone thinks the biggest challenge in African agriculture is land, or capital, or even access to markets. The truth is the real currency of agribusiness is trust. When a buyer in Berlin signs for a container of cocoa, they are not buying beans. They are buying provenance, predictability, and proof. That demand for proof has quietly become the primary determinant of value in global agricultural markets. Trust is not sentimental. It is commercial. It determines who gets premium prices, who wins long-term contracts, and who gains access to regulated markets. Without verifiable provenance, farmers and exporters lose negotiating power; with it, they earn premiums, attract investment, and unlock credit on better terms. Three practical mechanics convert crops into trust. First, provenance. Digital traceability, farmer IDs, harvest stamps, batch records, and immutable ledgers turn a product into a verifiable story. A buyer wants to know where a bean was grown, how it was treated, and who benefited. When that story can be checked in real time, market gates open. Second, standards. Certification and measurable quality metrics create comparability. Standards harmonized across buyers and borders remove friction. They turn informal supply chains into predictable pipelines that serious buyers can rely on. Third, data for finance. Lenders and buyers increasingly underwrite deals on verified performance data. A farmer with a documented track record is not an anonymous risk; they become a credible counterparty, enabling working capital, equipment finance, and scaling. These are not abstract prescriptions. In the field, I have seen cooperatives transform from price takers into partners once transparent aggregation and traceability were in place. The implication for leaders is straightforward. Investment decisions should prioritize trust infrastructure as aggressively as they prioritize seed or machinery. Build farmer registries that are interoperable. Fund cold-chain nodes tied to traceable lots. Standardize quality dimensions so buyers and regulators speak the same language. Partner with technology providers who understand local realities, not just global solutions.     At IoT Stars 2025 in Nuremberg, we unveiled the RAK11160 and shared the story behind why we built it. The idea came from a clear pattern we kept seeing: More than 60% of our RAK3172 users were also integrating ESP32 into their designs, just to add MQTT, OTA updates, or BLE provisioning. That meant extra components, extra cost, and more power consumption. That’s exactly what inspired our team at RAKwireless  to build the RAK11160. This isn’t just another LoRaWAN module. It's our first dual-core wireless MCU, blending: - STM32WLE5 for LoRa + ultra-low-power sensing - ESP32-C2 for on-demand WiFi and BLE These two cores don’t run in parallel. Instead, the STM32 manages system logic and keeps power consumption low by fully shutting down the ESP32, only waking it for BLE provisioning, WiFi-based OTA, or MQTT uplinks. This setup is great for #smartfarming , since the devices can stay asleep for days, send soil or crop data with LoRaWAN, and only use Bluetooth when a technician is close by.     Most farms focus on customers. The smart ones focus on fans. A customer buys your lettuce. A fan brings their friend to your next pop-up. A customer will buy your greens every week at market. A fam will post your greens on Instagram. They DM their favorite chef to ask why your farm isn’t on the menu. They don’t just consume your product - they extend your mission. That difference is the multiplier. Customers are transactional. Fans are transformational. You don’t make fans by accident. You cultivate them, just like your crops. You invite them in: ·      Host a farm tour with a story, not just a walk. ·      Give away a sticker to every kid who visits. ·      Offer a free tote to anyone who posts their produce box online. ·      Start a loyalty card that makes people feel seen and appreciated. But tools alone don’t create connection. Story does. Your farm’s story is the seed. The community is the soil. The more compelling your narrative, the more willingly people share it. And when they share it, your reach grows organically, without a single dollar spent. The farms that survive the next decade won’t be the ones with the biggest followings. They’ll be the ones with the deepest roots. The ones that people defend, promote, and grow with. Don’t chase views. Cultivate belief. Because in the end, this isn’t about marketing. It’s about identity. We don’t need more buyers. We need BELIEVERS.
